Commercial Description:
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue's Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole' black and tan!

Measurements: 12 degrees Plato, IBU 35, Apparent attenuation 82, Lovibond 23

Pours dark red tending to amber with a small, fizzy off white head. Nose is dominated by sweet chilli skin and smoked/cured ham. Palate delivers sweet, slightly smokey malt with pepper spice that lingers feint in the finish. Interesting...

Guess I’m not into the Chipolte beer. I’ve loved everything from Rogue up to this far. I’ll give them credit for creating a solid Jalapeno flavored beer, and by no means am I going to bash it, but It wasn’t my favorite rogue ale.

Smokey, chilli note drives a strong first impression. Kinda hard not to like / smell. Weird but strangely enticing. Chilli kicks in quickly on the palate but not to the extent I was expecting. The beer itself is essentially unspectacular, and the chilli becomes a little unbearable as the beer warms up.

Bottle at Beer Palace, Oslo. Hazy amber with a good offwhite head. Citrus hop aroma, hints of spices. Good citrus flavours, well-balanced maltiness. Some spiciness, but nothing to write home about. Relatively light body. Good - the bottle may not have been completely fresh.

This beer is an abomination. I wish I had tasted Ralph Wiggum’s Revenge at NOTB 08 just so I could have a range of pepper beers to compare to. A completely average American Ale peppered lightly with jalapen~os on the finish. I see no purpose for it except cooking, because I was far from refreshed after sipping.

Dark amber pour with a spicy nose. Spicy flavor with hints of malts, pepper, and roast (almost smokey)

I was rather disappointed in this beer. Way too spicy for my taste. Aroma was awesome with malts and pepper. Flavor was smokey and peppery. My beer tasted almost exactly like liquid smoke. Not good.

I had’nt before now ever had a beer that had peppers in it. I very much enjoy it. It pours a golden shade of amber with a retreating tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts and subtle chilis. Flavor is very smooth initialy, then the chipotle sorta jumps out atcha in the finish. I really enjoy it.
