Commercial Description:
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue's Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole' black and tan!

Measurements: 12 degrees Plato, IBU 35, Apparent attenuation 82, Lovibond 23

Poured amber with an off white head. Aroma was strong chipotle with some malt and hops underneath. Flavor was similar with almost a candle wax flavor going on. Finished lightly carbonated with a slight hop bitterness.

I always wondered if this would taste better on tap than from a bottle (in terms of chili bite), but the one time I ever saw it on tap, the bartender informed me they were all out. Oh well. It’s a decent beer. It pours a hazy amber in color with a foamy off-white head. I couldn’t sense the peppers in the aroma, it was more malty than anything else. The flavor was fairly balanced, with the spiciness arriving with the aftertaste and lingering from some time. As a fan of spice, I was hoping for a bit more intensity (like that beer with the jalapeno peper in every can), but it was definitely interesting.

Chipotle should never be in a beer. Ever. Disgusting. Don’t ever buy this. I need 75 characters to make this vote count.

Bottle. Pours a nice head. Malty flavour, but somewhat lacking in the expected chili bite.

Pours a hazy amber with an off whitish brownish head. Smells sugary. Taste is a bit malty at the start with some hop layering, but the finish provides a unique, tingly pepper flavor that is reminiscent of barbecue potato chips. It leaves a tiny little burn on your breath. Interesting brew by Rogue.

Bottle. Pours amber with thick white head. Hop aroma mingled with something else I can’t place. Taste is sweet with roast pepper and slight warmth at finish. Not my cup of tea.

Bomber from Brewery Creek: Pours a nice, slightly hazy amber with a thick foamy off white head. Aroma was hoppy with a tinge of pepper As much cayenne smelling as chipotle at first then some smokiness coming through as well. Flavour starts malty, slightly sweet smokey finish overtakes what hop there is. Flavours in the finish don’t completely mesh for me.
