Commercial Description:
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue's Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole' black and tan!

Measurements: 12 degrees Plato, IBU 35, Apparent attenuation 82, Lovibond 23

Interesting quaffer that makes a nice match, obviously, with any Mexican chipotle dish. Bottle pours dark amber with receding off-white head. Mildly hoppy aroma with tinges of smoke and fresh green bell peppers. Flavor has a very light touch of sweetness, with a refreshing level of citrus-hoppy bitterness, going a touch spicy and smoky at the end. The chipotle provides a restrained backdrop. It was perfect harmony with our tostadas con tinga de pollo y salsa chipotle. Glad I saved it for such an occasion. It was just the right context. You could drink this without Mexican food, but why would you?

bottle. Body is cloudy amber. Aroma is burnt plastic. Taste is some hops and maybe the peppers? Not that great.

I couldn’t really get into this one. Light peppery taste with some hops. Watery, light pepper finish that was not very appealing. The finish left my mouth hot after a few minutes. Almost refreshing, but not very satisfying.

Beautiful amber color; thick generous head. The aroma shows a delicate smoke and some malt. The body has an average structure, some malt flavor, stronger flavor of dry caramel, some smokeyness; the Chipotle spicing is very light (and it doesn’t bother). The ending bitterness at the end is maybe too high (with caramel).

12oz, had straight, not sure on the age, had no discernible hop profile.. just a nice malty backbone that finished with a slight pepper smoke flavor.. easy to drink with nothing being overpowering, just balanced.. a surprise indeed

Had this beer on 7/25/2007. Aroma is a mild sweet malt scent with back tones of hops. Color is a hazy amber with very low carbonation and no head. Taste is sweet, smoky and spicy. Starting with a medium body it goes down easy with just a tiny sweet crisp feel in the end. The finish is amazing, coming in with a sweet malt feel that turns a bit smoky with a slight pepper taste and only the slightest spicy feel. Overall its a very good beer, its bursting with flavor but it would be better if the carbonation was a bit better. it would be a great beer with Mexican food.

Light brown color. Very little malt and a hint of pumpkin pie flavoring. Far too light.

Bottle. Why do I even buy Rogue beers anymore? I end up pouring them all out after one or two sips. This one is no different. Dear Rogue, PLEASE brew something worthwhile.
