Commercial Description:
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue's Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole' black and tan!

Measurements: 12 degrees Plato, IBU 35, Apparent attenuation 82, Lovibond 23

very good aroma. i get a taste that reminds me of plastic and a hospital. - I GOT IT... ANTISEPTIC- must have been a decent experience it doesn’t turn me off. the peppers do their job. will take some getting used to,but this is a well made beer. it is interesting. burnt orange brew happens to be a favorite color. this is a -has it’s place beer. and it fills a niche pretty much by itself. boardering on genius. after two distinct tastes (which are powerful) you still get a nice hop burp. extra points!!

This beer gets no love. The appearance is burnt orange with a light tan head. Aroma is of hops and pepper. Flavor is smooth and malty and the pepper kick doesn’t resonate until a few seconds after the sip is finished, but when it does....its just right. I like it when a brewery takes a chance on something unique. Quite enjoyable.

Pour is a hazy brown with a small white head. Aroma is quite hoppy, I was waiting for the burn but it did not come. Flavor is more of the hops and some sliky malts. I got no real pepper burn so this turned out to be a disappointment in that catagory. I was saving this for when i was ready for a "hot" beverage and all i got was a average pale ale.

Pours the color of a IPA only darker and cloudier. Small fizzy head that dissapates quickly Tastes is like a spicy no hop amber ale. Really weird. Hard to drink and has a spicy fnish. Not a fan.

To me atleast, it smells like a fruity belgian ale at first. I don’t know wha tis going on here! I can smell a little spice, but I wouldn’t say it comes hits my nose to where it is obvious. Looks like a strong ale too. The taste completely surprised me. It has a somewhat fruity before taste, then the after taste has a spicy chipotle aftertaste. I can definitely feel it on the back of my throat. This beer has a smooth palate, creamy and nice. I think that this beer is pretty good, but I wish the spicy flavor was more apparent. Decent brew. I recommend trying it.

650 mL bottle. Hazy golden with creamy white head. Aroma of malt, smoke, and spice. Sweet malty taste with a hint of pepper in the slightly bitter finish.

Nice rich honey amber color with a good frothy whitish head. Smells of a touch of sweetness as it warms, but mostly of hops, and a slight bit of spicy heat, yet not a smoky chipotle spice smell at all. Taste is surprisingly smooth, hoppy, faintly sweet, a decent bit bitter, and perhaps the faintest bite of spice, but it might also just be flavor from the hops. There is a touch of sweetness in the aftertaste which is nice. It does have a warming effect in the chest area after it goes down also, but its definitely not a chipotle smell or smoked taste on the palate. Subtle but still nice, and even though I was expecting a touch more hearty spicy smokiness from the chipotle, It may have made for an overly spicy, unenjoyable beer. This may be the right spice level, but I wish it had a hint of smokiness still. Overall pretty well balanced, but maybe not what you’d expect from looking at the bottle. Good but was a bit pricy at $5.50 for a 22 oz bottle. I liked this beer more and more as I drank it.
