No, the peppers contribute a mild spiciness that’s a lot like hop spiciness - compare to saaz or perle. Aroma is malt and small amount of hops. Slight smokiness in the taste, but even that is pretty subdued. Nice and dry, easy to drink. Great as a summer brew and would go well with nearly any barbecue. I’d like to have this on tap at the brewery, I bet the volatile oils from the peppers are even more intact. Rotorhead87 (117), Temple, Texas, USA

I wouldn’t have guessed about the peppers if I hadn’t know, but it is noticeable. Kinda like the spice of hops, but without the bitterness. It was drinkable, but I wouldn’t get it again. brettpace (179), Northridge, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 24, 2007 This is a good ale, very red in color, with a slight pepperiness in the nose. Not much pepper in the taste, it seems to be used only for aromatic purposes. Some smokiness to it. jdhunt76 (56), Winter Springs, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 21, 2007 Bottle. Deep amber to light brown pour. Hoppy aroma with smoky lacing. Excellent chipotle flavor with a spiciness that creeps up on you in the aftertaste. Tastes like a spicier version of their smoke ale, and likewise cries out for food pairing. This would be great with anything southwestern or spicer BBQ items off the grill. Brewosk (137), Illinois, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 19, 2007 an orangeish red with a small lasting head. smells of cascade hops with a slight spiciness to it. medium body. tastes of floral malt with strong cascade flavors, medium light bitterness and a very delicate underlying spiciness to the whole beer. the chipotle in this beer is definitely not prominent, which makes it a nice slightly spicy golden ale redlem (1155), Illinois, USA
| 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 3/20 | Jun 17, 2007 Updated: Jun 28, 2009For a beer that puts "Chipotle" in its label I expect smokiness and some spicy hotness in said beer. I get none of that in this beer. To me this is nothing more than a American Lager, in other words a poor re-labeling of a Rogue beer.
Re-rate: Still not much chipotle characters but a decent amber with some smoke. Seems alot like Dead Guy now. 2.8 swanmann (308), Norman, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2007 Bottle poured a hazy dark amber color with a thin tan head. Mild spice notes with floral hoppiness and alcohol (chile pepper). Pretty well balanced I would say.
