Commercial Description:
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue's Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole' black and tan!

Measurements: 12 degrees Plato, IBU 35, Apparent attenuation 82, Lovibond 23

This was a decent brew, but i had multiple problems with it. The biggest problem I noticed was the simple aspect of balance. This brew had the potential to be excellent, but i found the chipotle to be far too overpowering to enjoy the brew itself. The spice itself is very subtle on the draw, and gains dominance in the aftertaste, immediately after swallowing. This is where i ran into problems. In my opinion, this is good - but the aftertaste should be offset by the brew’s aftertaste or a secondary flavor. The chipotle itself was simply too much. The one thing I LOVED about this brew was it’s gorgeous clear amber color. Absolutely stunning. It was decent, but i’m not going to be buying another bottle any time soon.

Bottled. Clear amber coloured with a medium sized white head. Nice balance with notes of bread, smoked sausage, chili and hops. Starts good but ends not to good. A bit strange.

A brown, opaque pourwith a quickly fading, off-white head. My first reactionwas:slightly bitter, the malt seemed to be missing. There was a lingering slight burning sensation in the rear of the mouth. Eh!

Pours a clear amber with no head. Aleish with a a lot of chile flavors buildig up and getting stronger in the mouth. Quite long and strong peppar in the finish with some yeast. Tiny hint of vegetables too. Medium to low carbonation. This one is much better than Cave Creek´s version, but chiles IMHO does not belong in beers.
