Commercial Description:
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue's Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole' black and tan!

Measurements: 12 degrees Plato, IBU 35, Apparent attenuation 82, Lovibond 23

Surprisingly good. Like a solid pale ale, but with chipotles at the finish instead of hops.

Enjoyed at the "IPA/Porter Brewout" on 2/10/2007... Tasting notes: Red/amber color with a lasting beige head. Flavor is malty, some hoppiness, and just a hint of chipotle (smoky/roasty). This beer has a nice malt base and sin’t overly hot or spicy (unlike Cave Creek Chili Beer). The smoked Chipotle flavor is well integrated and complements the other flavors nicely. This would also be a great beer to cook with. I look forward to trying this beer again in the future...

22ox bomber bottle, Pours nice and red-amber with a lingering head as most rogue beers tend to do, aroma has a great malty/spicy hot hint to it, flovor is a bit over powered with the peppers and they also tend to linger on the palet. I actaully needed a glass of water to acompany this beer because of the spiceiness. A great experiment but not a favorite not a big fan of the spciy burn linger.

Nice coppery red body, creamy thin off-white head. Nicely blended aroma of smoked peppers and beery malts. Brown ale-like hops in there too somewhere. Everything is low-key though, with the peppers blockading some of the beer character. Heh, I wasn’t sure what the flavor would bring, but it is much like the aroma. Amber ale-seeming slightly hopped caramel body, light smokey peppers, slight hops. Okay overall. Not great, but they did a good job making it and might go good with a pub burger.

Clear copper colour with a medium beige head. Malty, caramel sweet aroma with a light floral note and hints of some pepper. Malty, light sweet flavor with a clear peppery spicyness and a light dry finish.

Pours a deep copper color, with way too much foam. The bottle spouted foam as soon as the cap was lifted. Grrr... The head finally dies down to a thin cap with a large clump of light tan suds floating in the middle. Moderate lacing. Definite chile pepper in the aroma. A moderately malty (toasted grain) ale that quickly - and I mean quickly - blends into a smoked pepper flavor, finishing with some juicy chile pepper flavor and nice heat. Waiting a minute or two between sips, the heat from the pepper fades, suprising me by leaving a nice spicy hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Medium body, very soft and gentle carbonation. Not trying to usurp Barley12 (the undisputed king of describing beer belches), but even a couple hours after finishing the beer, I detect spicy chile pepper in the um... extended aftertaste.
