Commercial Description:
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue's Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole' black and tan!

Measurements: 12 degrees Plato, IBU 35, Apparent attenuation 82, Lovibond 23

A strange novelty beer. Tastes like a beer with tabasco sauce in it. Not much more to say. I bought this out of curiosity alone. I would not drink more than one, but glad I tried it.

Bomber. Pours a hazy dark copper. Fading off-white head. Caramel and pepper in the nose. Medium body and light carbonation. Pepper taste doesn’t fight with the beer (a relief) but doesn’t get along famously either. This beer is OK, but not close to my favorite offering from Rogue, although this is probably an excellent example of the genre. Like so many other raters I’m finding it hard to get enthusiastic about this beer.

(Bottle) Pours a rich golden color with a medium sized, lasting head. Very interesting taste, with the aftertaste being the spicy part of the experience. The pepper notes aren’t overwhelming though. Interesting, but one try is probably enough with this one.

Pours amber with a small off-white head. Can smell the chipotle, otherwise hoppy aroma. Chipotle aftertaste doesn’t do a whole lot for me. Pretty much met my expectations.

Pours hazy orangish amber with a fully receding foamy tan head. Aroma of yeasty smoke, smoked pine, and a woodsy evergreen quality. Taste is spicy, light toffee, smokey, and hot peppers. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation and a spicy, lingering finish from the peppers. Very interesting, but I don’t know if I’d call this experiment a success.

Bottle. Off-white fluffy and quickly disappearing head. Hazy dark orange body. Sweet pepper hops aroma. Acidic strong pepper flavor.

Light golden yellow with small frothy head. I enjoy chipotles in spicy foods but they really do ruin a good base of a beer here.

well, my powers of observation provide me with the spicy flavor. but other than that, there’s not much to it. purs brownish amber, little head. it’s another rogue that one of the brewers dreamed up during a meal - that’s my bet. great with mexican or thai. the end.
