Commercial Description:
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue's Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole' black and tan!

Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival. Hazy amber with a firm white foam. Caramel and cookies in aroma with with a peppery heat underneath. Peppery and grassy flavour with a sweet caramelly undertone. As it warms up, the chili is getting really hot. White-pepper, chili and grass in the long afteraste. Interesting but not something I could drink all night.

Pours to a medium head; aroma is hearty; malty. Taste is equally hearty with a moderately foamy mothfeel. Chili flavor is more evident when the beer warms up. It’s slight, but it is there; you can feel the peppery sensation on the back of your throat. A fair amount of hop towards the end, too. I hope it doesn’t give me heartburn!

tap - This one smells malty with a little spice. The flavor is malty with rather strong spiciness, as in hot spice. The palate is highly carbonated and on the thin side. While okay tasting, the spice makes it seem pretty one dimensional. Interesting, but it’s not really my thing.

Enjoyable, I think they may be onto something with the pepper flavor. Worth a try if you stumble upon it, I wouldn’t go out of my way to find it though.

Great looking beer when you pour it. Nice full head with a red tint. The Cascade hops really come through in the aroma and well with the flavor. I was a little disapointed by the beers lack of spice kick. After reading some of the reviews on here I expected to be overwhemlmed by it. Instead it just presented it self in a subtle undertone. Must say, this did make for a good compliment to chili. A good beer but not something I would make an effort to get.

Pours like a slightly red-tinted amber beer, with a nice head. Aroma opens up with a light mix of malty scents and vegetables. Interesting. Taste is malty upfront, and the feel of the beer is medium and smooth. The finish is where the smoked pepper flavors come in. The roastiness hits the throat, and then further into swallowing, the spiciness kicks in. Basically, this is a nice amber beer, that finishes spicier and slightly smokier than a normal beer would. For the record, I found the spice pleasant.

Rogue Chipotle Ale Bomber Brewed Spring 06, buvar 09/06 Medium pour in a stein. Poured a hazy reddish brown with a small rocky white fully diminishing head. Smelt of roasted habaneros and light dark bread. Taste was upfront light sweet breadiness with the bitter roasted habanero taste kicking in afterwards and a touch of almost lemony acidity for a finish that is hidden by the spicyness. Mouthfeel was light, watery, with soft carbonation and light burning peppers. Overall, the roasted habanero taste is subdued enough for this ale to be enjoyable, but is otherwise fairly boring tastewise.
