Commercial Description:
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue's Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole' black and tan!

i love this ale! alot of ppl i know refuse to try a beer because its brewed with peppers....thats ludicris!! lots of ppl are afraid of flavor.this ale has an extreamly calm bite from the chipotle peppers but just enough to tell u its there.the color of it is amazing with this brilliant red color and full head.defintly something to try.

I’m surprised that more brewers haven’t experimented with savory flavors in beer. Cave Creek has their nasty chili beer, and I beleive Pike has made a beer with Oregano, and is all, I think. Good with spicy food.

A mold of clouded copper. Small, unlasting cap of big bubbly froth. Light lacing with some strings and tiny spots. Aroma is lovely with a huge smokey malt and roasted pepper waft. Round and spicy, smokey and resonating. Nice! Taste is just as nice with moderate malts giving weight to the smokey ridge in which it rides. Fun lingering finish with the smokey leftovers and grab of roasted pepper spice. It wavers on the palate for good length with smokey pepperness. Quite nice. Never over the top with its spice, but definately present. Feel is a sturdy medium body with a malty centered middle and one fun finish with the smokey spices and lightly textured dryness. A drinkable, fun brew to behold if in the mood for something out of the ordinary. Perfectly spiced and smokey for this Northern boys’ buds

I don’t know why everyone gives such a low score to this. This is probably my favorite spiced ale. Pours brown with a red glow. Thin head, mild carbonation. Aroma is sweet with molasses. Body is thin and refreshing. Flavor is of smoked peppers. Not spicy though. Reminds me of the smoked chipotle variety of tabasco sauce but without the burning sensation. Wonderful ale.

The magic is that the beer does not taste "flavored" by the chipotle pepper, but infused into its character. At first you taste a beer that reminds you of smoke and heat, but as your pallete warms up to the unique beer you start to distinctly taste and smell the chipotle pepper. I was very happy with the Chipotle Ale.

Pours a caramel amber color w/ a medium sized, semi creamy froth. Residual lacing is a full ring w/ a dusty canopy. Aroma of mildly smoked malts. Medium nectar w/ ample yet soft residual effers. A nice malty backbone w/ a defined chipotle chili component. The pepper heat is mild but totally noticable leaving a slight burn as she goes down. Theres a leathery component here that blends well w/ the smokiness. Like mesquite grilled chilis. Other nuances of plump juicy peachs w/o the sugar. A moderate hop profile keeps everything in balance. The finish is bittered perfectly and a residual pepper burn lingers for a while. Overall: a very unique brew and totally drinkable. It kinda grows on ya.

I love spicy things, so it is only natural that I would enjoy a spicy beer...no? Pours a crimson brown color with a long lasting fizzy head. The spice is very evident, and enjoyable as it is unique and well pronounced. If the didnt base this on the Oregon Golden Ale I would rate this higher.

This beer is overly maligned on this site. Beautiful appearance with a fine hop aroma and flavor. Finish is a tasty of roasted, spicy peppers. A very light ale, but unique enough to enjoy for awhile. Fairly tasty.
