Commercial Description:
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue's Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole' black and tan!

Measurements: 12 degrees Plato, IBU 35, Apparent attenuation 82, Lovibond 23

Pours transparent brown amber with a good sized creamy off white head. The aroma is a crisp fresh version of the smell from a can of chipotles in adobo. I’m surprised that chipotle aroma is so evident. There’s a lot more chipotle flavor as well, although no heat. This is well made. It had to take some work to get this balanced. Unfortunately the chipotle flavor doesnt go over nearly as well in a beer as it does with some braised pork. Interesting, but not something I’d drink frequently.

when cold, it’s likea regular amber with a slight nose of pepper, but as it warms you really start to get a glowing sensation of high quality fresh pepper. The sting really warms your mouth, kind of like an icy hot sensation, for very long time after your last sip. Malty and peppery is all I can really say to decribe the flavor. Good stuff tho- way better than Chili Beer.

I had this beer out of a bottle. What a smokey-tasting/smelling brew! This beer is enjoyable for it’s unique-ness.

A truly unique beer...aroma is very smoky and peaked my curiosity instantly. Very cloudy in appearance with a dark caramel color. Flavor is bold pepper, not spicy but smoky and while different, rather enjoyable if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary.

22 oz bottle. Only faintly spicy in the nose. Light caramel presence is also detectable. Aromas open up a bit after it sits a bit. Pours orangish-amber with a nice head which dissipates in about two minutes. Good lacing. Tastes of peppers; only moderately spicy. Medium body, medium carbonation. I’m a little disappointed in this one. While not bad, I’ve had better chili beers (Coopersmith!!!).

Deep golden in colour. Very malty aroma, mild chipotle pepper.... blah blah I get what they are going for here, just not for me. Have to try again, with food believe it will be much better.

Bomber. Poured a golden orange color with a medium sized head. Very distinct malty aroma with a fair amount of chipotle peppers. The first sip was a little unusual as it was hard to fully grasp the combination of the malt and peppers, but this one really grew as I continued to drink. I will definitely try again!

Pours clear copper amber with a small off white head. The nose is pepper mainly with some caramel underneath. The taste is dominated by chili pepper but has somewhat of a moderate hop taste. Ok beer. Interesting though.

Orange-amber with a low head. Spicy flavour with sweet caramel notes underneath, The flavour is sweet to begin with, but then the chilli starts messing with your throat. It is however quite balanced for a chili-brew.
