Strong chocolate flavor that doesn’t get tiresome and a full body. Sessionable stout. Great balance between the bitterness associated with dark chocolate and stouts and sweetness of lighter chocolates. Soft brown head that dissipates quickly so you can get straight to the delicious stout that awaits. snuffla (97), Chch, New Zealand
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 8, 2009 Pours dark dark brown with a pillowy soft, thick and creamy head. A picture in a glass. Lovely rich chocolate aroma, some hints of roasted note - quite inviting. Chocolate and some brunt toast flavourwise, with a velvet smoothness over the palate. Would be awesome teamed up with a rich chocolate dessert. Duhast500 (176), , Massachusetts, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Aug 7, 2009 Poured into a pint glass from a 1pt. 6oz. bottle.
The color is a complete dark black, with a light brown foamy head which sticks to the glass.
The smell is of sweet chocolate. Smells like a chocolate bar of a Hersey kiss.
The taste is very chocolate. Tastes like a Mr. Goodbar, some nutty flavor mixed in with the creamy chocolate.
This is one of the very best stouts I have had. It may be the best stout. It is really easy drinking and very tasty. It also has just enough bitter hops taste to remind you it is a stout. This would make for a very good after dinner beer.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 30, 2009 Nearly opaque with a bit of reddish brown. Big tan head response. Big chocolate smell on the nose. Lots of sweet chocolate upfront, with a lingering dark chocolate bitterness. Roasted coffee grounds appear deep into the finish. Decent but the bitterness lasts a bit too long. zizzybalubba (372), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 29, 2009 On tap at Coasters. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma of smoke and, very faintly, dark chocolate. Tastes of light citrus hops, dark chocolate, and just a hint of coffee. Some combination of this becomes less pleasant the more I drink; the hops become noticably more present almost to the point of being a bit sour. Having had this both in the bottle and on tap I prefer it in the bottle. A very solid stout all the same especially based on the first few sips. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 28, 2009 6/21/2008: Rogue Chocolate Stout is ebony-colored with a tan head that creates sheet-like lacing on the glass. The beer smells like dark chocolate and Dutch cocoa. This beer is quite dry and has some cocoa/unsweetened chocolate and dark chocolate flavor, but it is VERY bitter. I think there is just too much bittering hops or unsweetened chocolcate. It has a medium body and is easy to drink, but the bitterness definitely starts to be overwhelming for a chocolate beer.
22 fl. oz. bottle (15° Plato, 69 IBU, 77 AA, 135.45° L) enjoyed during the Grand Banquet at the 2009 American Homebrewers Association Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rating #1504 for this beer.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 27, 2009 On tap at the brewery on 6/28/09. Pours solid black with mocha head, great lacing. Aroma is certainly dominated by chocolate, but gives way to smoke and coffee. This is a straight up sweet, smooth, balanced stout with a great chocolate finish, and for the style, it’s incredible. Will be looking for this on the east coast.
