I’ve had better chocolate stouts, but this was very good. Tasty and frothy and thick.

Bottled. Unsurprisingly, the flavour of this smooth, deep brown beer is dominated by chocolate, but that’s no bad thing. The warming bitterness of the hops adds delightfully to the effect. I thought this was very good indeed.

Rogue Chocolate Stout is a black ale with a foamy, light brown head that exhibits great retention. It has a strong roasted chocolate malt aroma. It is sweet, dark and a bit fruity. It is smooth and full bodied; soft with a snappy finish. It is a very full flavor: pretty sweet and quite bitter. It’s like dark chocolate with a touch of citrus. The flavor is well balanced. This beer is almost like a liqueur. Damn. I can find no fault with this beer. I think it’s the best beer I’ve ever had.

bottle; black pour with one to two finger head that lasts. aroma is of sweet toasty malt with lots of chocolate, very pleasant. medium body, with good complex sweet and toasty malt with notes of coffee that quickly fade to a lingering bitter-sweet chocolate.

1/12/08 notes: Rogue is fucking amazing. Had this beer a few days after really enjoying their Shakespeare Stout. I have this considerable thought, but I really feel that this beer tops it. Features an delicious dark chocolate aroma and a full bodied, rich, creamy toasted chocolate flavor. Perfect medium carbonation and smooth hop-roast finish. Touch of molasses at the end adds flavor and balance to this brew.

On draft at the GOBF. Pours a blackish red, very thick and creamy head. Aroma is almost chocolate milk, but more roasted grains start coming out as it warms. Taste is dry, chocolaty, with a hoppy bitterness and lots of the roasted grains. Very solid beer.

Man, I remeber this beer better than I what I tasted today. Still a solid brew and still the best sweet stout out there but I found the chocolate flavor to be not as prominant as in earlier Rogue choco stouts. The chocolate flavor and aroma just seems to be toned down from previous tastings. All things considered still a smooth sweet brew and well balanced. This will require more research ;)
