This is my new favorite stout. Smooth and creamy with a sweet chocolate taste all the way down the gullet. Doesn’t overwhelm as the tastes of roasted malt and hops come through. I love this beer.

Pours with a dark black color and about a half inch of head that dissipates in a few minutes. The aroma is strongly chocolate. The flavor is not overpowering chocolate, but seems well balanced. The roasted malts and hops come through the chocolate fog. This beer is medium-heavy bodied and medium carbonation. This is a good beer and good stout.

(cleaning out my beer bottle collection as pictured in my profile and utilizing ratebeer.com) As I recall, this was a delicious stout. Could use more abv, but was just the right balance of bitter and chocolate.

Original rating 3/6/05. Pours a very black color, moderate tan head that doesn’t last long. Chocolate, malty aroma, although not all that strong. The flavor is pretty nice with dark chocolate right away with subtle malts and bitter hop notes following. This seems more like a dessert. Hell, maybe it can be. I can’t drink too many of these chocolate beers though. A simple 12 ounce would have been fine. Re-rate 10/31/08. A nice one for Halloween. Black color with a little amber sneaking through with a thin head, even with an aggressive pour. Wonderful aroma, lots of cocoa. The beer starts off rather tame but quickly turns to a nice mix of milk and dark chocolate flavors. Roasted malts, light hop bitterness and coffee notes prevent this from being too one dimensional. Chocolate lingers long into the aftertaste. Easy drinking stout... no problem finishing a bomber this time. Rogue’s Shakespeare is still better but this is very solid.

Pours black with light brown head. Aromas of burnt malts and chocolate. Flavor is bitter burnt malts and chocolate. Full body with minimal carbonation and creamy mouthfeel. An excellent sweet stout.

Pours a thick, dark black with a minimal tan head. The aroma is almost all sweet chocolate, with a little bit of roasted malt bitterness in there. The flavor hits with tons of chocolate right of the bat, which fades very gracefully into a somewhat roasted malt/hop bitterness. The chocolate flavor lingers throughout however. This beer is balanced remarkably well, with all the flavors existing together quite harmoniously. The mouthfeel is little sharp for the style, but is still very nicely full bodied. I have to say that this may be my favorite Rogue brew so far, highly recommended.
