The aroma is powerful more than intense and has strong notes of chocolate (a mix between dark and milk chocolate), Cascade hops with their citric character and roasted malt. The flavour has the expected notes of chocolate, plus a hint od coffee and a large amount of hops. Medium body at best, lively carbonation, quite long chocolately finish with medium bitterness. Certainly not bad, but I would have preferred a stronger body. However if you like chocolate this is your beer. Jukkabro (3032), Tampere, Finland
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 24, 2008 Near black colored, little brown head. Well, chocolate dominates this overly sweet aroma, slight hops, mild caramel and roastiness also there. Medium bodied. Flavor is also chocolaty, though hops are nicely present here. Aftertaste dries nicely with bitter hops and chocolate still. Flavor is way better than overly sweet aroma. HerrBier (12), Richardson, Texas, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 23, 2008 This one is hard to rate as it is the best tasting beer I’ve ever had. Someone finally got roasted malts quite right. Not overpowering but with a very complex set of flavors. My overall isnt’ a 20 because it cost about $6 after tax. Also, this is not an everyday drinker for me. But, as a brew to end the day on, it hits one out of the proverbial park. guyinchicago (533), marengo, Illinois, USA

Strong aroma of chocolate, but with additinal notes of roasted coffee and licorice. Tatse of chocolate and hops which really shine through at the finish. Fairly well balanced. The chocolate malts are the highlight here, but the finish is bitter and lasting. One of Rogue’s best beers. spud1987 (46), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 21, 2008 Pours a black color with a tan head that dissipates quickly. Scent of chocolate and toffee. Taste was of chocolate, and roasted malts. Surprising hop finish and small bite of the alcohol. This beer was awesome. Definitely one of my favorite stouts and overall beers. afireinside96 (839), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA
