HogTownHarry (3200), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jun 30, 2005 Updated: Aug 15, 2005 Bottle (650ml). Had put it away for 8 months - wow! Pours thick, opaque black - decent toffee-ish head, creamy. Smells .. oh, like a black forest cake, bitter chocolate, aged fruit preserves. Taste ... dark roasts, best belgian 86% cocoa chocolate, hops trying to get in there, sweet grains. Finishes long, sweet/bitter (depends on your mood!!). Almost chewy. Like my sister’s famous oatmeal/sour cream chocolate cake in liquid form. Much better than the first botle I tried - set it aside and enoy it later!
JackMehoff (18), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Sep 5, 2008 Quite the tasty chocolate stout! I absolutely loved the aroma and the appearance, and actually admired it while I did work throughout the early afternoon. Rich chocolate flavor without overdoing it. Another fine brew. Rogue we salute you! Stew41 (876), Caulfield, Australia Sep 5, 2008 Nice chocolate kick off the nose; dense and powerful. Transfers well to taste with stocks of chocolate coming through. Simple and very effective. FlssmrBrewAlum (204), South Chicago Suburbs, Illinois, USA Sep 4, 2008 22 oz Bomber from Sam’s Wine (South Loop, Chicago, IL). Pours a deep brown, almost black, with very little light coming through with a big bubbly brown coca-cola-esque head that is definitely staying around. Aromas are sweet creamy chocolate with almost a hot chocolate lure. Initial is smooth, a medium bodied brew that slowly slides into chocolate creamy heaven. Finish sneaks in a touch of hoppy bitterness, stout dryness, and roasted malts. Very inviting brew that leaves a very enjoyable aftertaste and could be a wonderful gateway brew to lure people in (While still being a special, remarkable brew on its own). Great stout! kassner (146), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 4, 2008 Bottle dark Amber with deep tan head. You can’t miss the chocolate, but the high level of carbonation kicks in too soonfor a stout. Dissappointing after a good start. Very little Malt bblack99 (11), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Sep 2, 2008 On tap at Henry’s 12th St. in Portland, Oregon. Fantastic finish, a hearty "dessert" beer that was great on a cool September evening.
