Commercial Description:
"This ain't your Dad's malt liquor" - Brewmaster John Maier After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organize the First Father's Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Fathers Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance. Dad's is brewed with Harrington and Klages malts, Flaked Corn, Crystal Hops, Free Range Coastal Water, and Czech Pils Yeast. Available in the spring of 2005 in the classic 22-ounce Rogue micropiece. Measurements: 17 degrees Plato, IBU 25, Apparent Attenuation 77, Lovibond 10 degrees.

Yellow color with a medium head. Aroma of sour corn mash. That carries into the taste with an oddly strong wheat backbone. Sweet and tart alcohol finish. Not the worst malt liquor by a mile.

Golden-amber in colour, fine off-white coloured head, some light lacing. The aroma is of light alcohol, quite sweet, pale malts, some apples. The flavour is moderatly sweet, noticable alcohol, sugar covered apples, some corn. Lightly bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes with a lingering bitterness and some alcohol warmth. Not a great beer from Rogue but leave it to them to produce a Malt Liquor that I actually find drinkable.

Clear yellow pour with a trace of a white head. Corn and yeast aroma. Very sweet. High carbonation. Did I say sweet? Some maltiness towards the middle. Bit of alcohol on the back-end. Better than 8 ball, that’s for sure but not something I’ll likely buy again.

Looks and smells just like what it is. Small white head that went away quickly. Smells like corn and dirt. Slightly nasty bitter taste, not a good hop bitterness. Tastes sort metallic even though its not in a can. I think I would rather drink a Colt 45 at 1/6th the price.

Thanks to Joebrew for sharing. Surprisingly not horrible - even drinkable. Highly carbonated with a light yellow color. Crisp clean nose with grainy hints. Sweet body with a lager like flavor and strong alcohol cutting through.

(this really should come in a 40)piss yellow with some white head that leaves no lacing or frontin’.aroma is of corn, sugar, rice, malts, and 22 inch rims on a 84 Buick regal.the flavor is down with the aroma.although i would add p-funk samples, babies mamas, set trippin’,and smokin’ chronic till the say i die!to bad a bunch of hippies made this.

Pours a clear gold with yellow highlights and a thin, white head (no lace). The aroma is very yeasty with decent amount of malts, too. The flavor is medium in balance - with a firm, golden malt presence. It also has other interesting artifacts (which happen to be hallmarks of this style): sugar, banana, hints of pear, and a touch of alcohol. The mouthfeel is quite full-bodied, but nicely carbonated to provide a pleasant texture. Overall, very nice - now I know what a premium "malt liquor" tastes like, and it is substantially more palatable than Old English 800 or its ilk.

Not much to this beer. It was a very hot day when I tried it, so it was very refreshing and went down very easily. Otherwise, not much by way of flavor or mouthfeel. I’d get this beer for a post-lawnmowing refreshment, or maybe for a party, but it just didn’t do much for me. Better than a Bud, but not on par with other Rogue brews.
