Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Bottle. Pours a translucent dark amber; nice white head that disappears relatively quickly. Flavor is, like most of the raters have said, quite balanced between sweet malts and bitter hops. Good stuff.

A: Poured with an average-sized, white head that dissipated pretty quickly to 1/4-finger or so. Body is a nice, orange/amber color, and hazy. S: Very nice aroma that comes across as well-balanced, with the malt and hops, with some interesting fruitiness coming through that I can’t place. Kind of like mango or pineapple or something. T: Very tasty, and a smooth-drinking beer. Comes off mostly sweet from the malt and the fruit, but finishes with a mild bitterness that leaves a light dryness in the mouth. Doesn’t taste like 6.5%... dangerous. M: Medium-bodied and creamy, with average carbonation. D: This is the definition of ’quaffable’. I really enjoyed this beer... the fine balance and the addition of the fruitiness is very drinkable and nowhere near overpowering.

Bottle. This was a wonderful beer. The balance was incredible. The malty sweetness with the hoppy bitterness was great. I highly recommend this one. Will drink again.

Bottle. Pours a deep orange with a little haze. Nice white head that disappeared pretty quickly leaving a little lace. Lots of sweet malt aromas, plenty of mead / honey and a little caramel. Also some earthy hops aromas and a little yeast. Flavours are quite sweet with heaps of malt and caramel. Roasted flavours near the finish followed by some hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is spot on. Nicelt balanced beer.

Pleasant sweet, fruity ale. I don’t understand how this could be considered a maibock, however. Estery, fruity, honey-flavored characteristics are not unpleasant, but certainly resemble a West Coast ale more than a lager. Nice warming character; reminds me of a lower alcohol version of Lagunitas’ Brown Shuggga’.

Pours a clear amber under a thick head that dissipates rapidly, but leaves excellent lacing. Malts come through strong in the nose. Slight bit of earthiness and some nice caramel/toffee sweetness. Little bit of complex tastes going on here. Sweetness and slightly toasty malts. Mild hop kick. Little bready and fruity. Good balance. Nice and creamy in the mouth. Just a tad to the lighter side of the scale, but still good. Overall, a very easy drinking beer.

How many mead drinkers have smelled this familiar aroma. Honey, malt, and fresh bready yeast dominate the nose. Sweet malt, light hop, and nutty barley dominate the flavour. Very nice hazy tupelo honey colour. A little thin on the palate but overall a very smooth, drinkable ale.
