Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear amber-orange with an average creamy off-white head that disapates to a thin layer but lasts throughout. Minimal lacing on the glass. Nice sweet, malty aroma with caramel and a hint of citrus. Flavor is moderately sweet, some caramel, a slight toastiness and a spicy, bitter hop finish. Nicely balanced. Full bodied.

I have been pleasantly surprised by every rogue I have tasted so far, and this one is no different. DGA is just an overall drinkable beer, ROGUE recommends you drink it wile eating pork/BBQ, but it goes well with just about any protein or just by its self.

Bottle. Poured amber almost orange in color with a small off white head that diminished quickley. The aroma was that of toasted caramel malts and citrus with a nice hoppy scent. Tasted of citus, lemon I think with a full flavor of hops. Mouthfeel was creamy an medium bodied with a nice hoppy aftertaste that lasted qiute a while. Overall a really tasty ale.

Bottled 355ml from crackedkettle.com. Hazy copper beer with a small light beige head. Malty aroma with hints of raisin, fennel, caramel, cherry, walnut, marshmallows, wood, berries and faint bittering hops. Sweet malt accentuated taste. Full bodied. A lot of fennel, raisin, walnut, berries and caramel showing up. Decent bitterness. Not much lacework. Long malty finish where some bittering hops sneak in. A nice beer.

Draft. Pours clear amber with no head (for my pour anyway- I’m not sure how so many others are getting such a thick head on this one). Aroma of hops, toffee, malt. Flavor is busy, with hops, toffee, malt, wheat, citrus, and spice, and both bitter and sweet. Medium body. A lot of fun to drink because it has a lot going on.

Light, hazy amber, big frothy beige head with good retention. The pale malt aroma has an unmistakable edge of peanut butter, interesting but not really desirable to me. Flavors are a strongly floral on top of a big, honey-bread dough-nougat malty mess. Other contributing flavors are nut, mandarin orange, dust, and a bit of papery oxidation at the end. There’s a lot of flavor going on, but it doesn’t work together for me. Full bodied, somewhat sticky mouthfeel.

(35.5cl bottle) Hazy, deep golden colour with a thick off-white foamy head. Sweet and bready cara-malty aroma with a distinctive touch of biscuits and butterscotch. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft mouthfeel. Robust pale and cara-malty base with liquid biscuits; sweet and malt-accented finish with a whiff of herbal and resiny hops. Hearty pale Bock, just a tad on the sweet side (11.VIII.09).

This is a tasty, yet bitter beer. I’m not much for overly bitter beers, so I likely wouldn’t enjoy having more than one of these at a time. It was fairly tasty though.
