Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Light buttery carmel malt aroma. Metallic + slighlty dusty. Smell is clean like dirt after rain. Light fruitiness and some spice (black pepper, nutmeg). Mellow toasted malt flavor with big floral + fruity (fig, melon, orange) characteristics. Spices (cinnamin, nutmeg, black pepper) and a subdued hops kick for balance. Palate is mildly astringent with a creamy texture. The tangy bite and malty body give this brew its extreme drinkabiliity.

12 oz. bottle from the LCBO, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. July 2008

App.: Medium amber, clear, fair off-white head. Aroma: Lots of nutty, fruity caramel and toffee, a bit of resinous hops, apples, pears, light Sultanas, a bit of vanilla, light tropical fruits. Palate: Medium body, medium-soft carbonation. Flav.: Much like the nose: lots of fruits, caramel, plenty of nuts, some resinous leafy hops; off-dry with a good shot of bitterness, burnt sugar finish.

Glad to have this at the LCBO.

Deep malty hop aroma. Clear dark orange with white creamy head that thins to nothing. Sweet malty hop mixed with grapefruit bitterness leaves a dry bitter after-taste. Hides alcohol well, was thinking 5ish. Finally available at LCBO in Ontario, thank the beer gods.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orangish brown with one finger beige head and minimal lacing. Nose is malty and roasted nuts. Taste is nuts, toasted malt, some spice and a little bitterness in the finish. Medium mouth feel. Meh, kinda boring.

355 mL bottle. Pours clear amber with nice head. Aroma is very rich and fragrant - sweet and syrupy. Flavour is bitter and a bit spicy, with a bit of a metallic taste on the palate. Fairly bold beer, overall pretty nice.

Very tasty maibock. Unclear orange body with a cream-colored head. Light caramel, long-lasting flavor makes this a tasty brew.
