Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

750ml red painted bottle. Pours a clear orange/amber with moderate off-white head. Aroma is a pleasant balance of hops and tangy malts. The flavor starts with a lot of pungent and tasty malts - notes of toffee and caramel. Towards mid-palate, soft American hop flavors emerge with slowly balancing bitterness. Finish is nicely balanced with just the right dose of bitterness and hoppiness to reign in the malts. Very smooth and drinkable for this strength. Mouthfeel is medium-full in body and slippery with moderate carbonation. Overall, a very tasty brew.

2008 version at 9% - Sweet and citrusy in the nose with lime, grapefruit and icing sugar dominant. Lightly hazy deep copper coloured body is topped by a decent off white, large bubbled head that recedes slowly and leaves some lacing. Pleasant round malt sweetness features toffee and just a hint of butterscotch that is offset by pronounced bitterness that is somewhat grassy in character. Citrus is notable throughout and lingers in the aftertaste. Medium-full body with moderate to strong carbonation that prickles the tongue and cheeks and really perks up the taste buds. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at the Brewery Creek in Jan-09.

Poured orangey-amber with a big off-white head. Noted a citrusy aroma (grapefruit?) from the hops. Light and smooth palate. Not as hoppy as expected, but moderately so, with a mild afterbite. Malt sweetness becomes more evident as it warms.

Not my favorite Rogue brew, but still a pretty fine Ale. Slightly more bitter than I was expecting, still a pretty good strong ale

Dark pour with a persistent frothy head. Sweet after taste that makes it an overall rounded beer. Delicious.

Beer is as advertised, lots of toffee and caramel present in this mahogany colored brew. A small quarter inch fluffy head sits atop a concoction emanating a caramel malty aroma. The flavor was more of the same with a nice hop presence to balance out the malt bill. Not overly sweet, not overly bitter, some alcohol burn present. A good strong ale type beer, but I don’t think it warrants the price tag north of $10/bottle.

Bottle, #460. Hazy copper pour with small head and minimal lacing. Hopy and malty aroma and flavor, well balanced. Not as intense as expected, but a great brew none the less.
