Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Pours dull copper with a tall chunky almond meat head great retention good lacing. Aroma has lots of caramel, cashew brittle, floral and citrus hops, citron candies. Flavor is praline, lemon and floral hops with a bit of roast, bitter hops, cocao liquor, licorice, and bitter spicy hops. Finish is somewhat bitter with hints of butterscotch, lots of caramel and sweet dried fruit. After a few drinks I noticed an interesting smoke-like taste from the middle to well into the finish, interesting and hard to place, like smoked berries or something. This probably hides its alcohol content better than just about any beer I have had recently.

On tap at Stone a few weeks ago. I was surprised I liked this as much as I did. Aroma of lemon, fruit and citrus. Color was an orange amber with a light beige head. Flavor was solid and drinkable. A pretty good balance. Caramel, fruit, lemon and citrus. Enjoyable for the style.

Testing. Dark amber, darker than expected. Medium head. Toffee and some fruitiness in the nose. Very sweet with lots of toffee and caramel. A touch of butterscotch. Faintly bitter at the finish. Drinkable but not something Id get excited about.

On tap. Poured a dark cloudy amber, with a thin head. Didn’t get too much from this, found it malty with some hop flavor, nothing that really stood out. Maybe this was from a bad keg?

Large head, mild carbonatio, bronze coloured ale.a caramel touch at first to the nose, nutty, roasted malt odours, smooth.Flavour there is an added grittyness for touch, caramel is superb like the aroma, roasted tastes of cocoa, chocolate,an added malt freshness for the balance and smoothness. The bitter is really a highlight, mixed with a tang through the ale.Finish bitter/smooth so tasty.

(Bottle). Strong sweet hoppy aroma, fruits and caramel. Clear reddish amber body, medium light tan head. Delicious flavor profile, well blended with fruity hops and mild sweet caramel malt. Pleasing long lasting finish. This is a great ale, I just wish it weren’t so darned expensive.

2008 Bottle. Not really impressed by this, especially at the price, and that is hard to say as I like regular dead guy ale. What sort of excuses are they coming up with for a $14 a bottle beer? "John used cascade and Crystal because he was out of his first choice"...at $14 a bottle?! Anyway, enough ranting. Pours with a large off-white head and a hazy orange body. Good lacing. Aroma has lots of dark fruits, toffee and very raw, grainy caramalized two row barely. Very lightly hopped. Taste is just boring. Really malty with not too much going on. A bit husky if anything. Oily mouthfeel, light carbonation.

Pours with a light amber hue that is pretty clear and sparkling. Head is large and light brown and is mostly diminishing with time. Aroma is of molasses, grain, and lots of nuts! Light hops with an average yeast note in the nose. Other smells that are prominent are the dark fruits - plums, prunes, and dates. Medium to the palate - oily texture. Lively carbonation. Sweet beginning and a bitter ending on the flavor. Lots of nuts in the taste!!!!!!!
