Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Bottle@LCRBM 2008. A clear red/brown colored beer, with a nice white head. The aroma of hops with caramel and some dark fruits. The taste of American hops with a little roasted malts and dark fruits like raisins. The aftertaste is dry and nice bitter.

Bottle @ LCRBM 08: Poured a orange copper color with a off white head. The aroma is hops and malts. Taste is malts and hoppy.

Poured amber brown into the glass. Aroma was caramel and piney hops. Taste was much the same, nice bitterness throughout, as well as orange and sweet malt. But all the pieces never quite came together. Fairly straightforward american strong, but never quite came together for me.

Bottle from Holday Wine Cellar. Pours with an orange-amber body topped by a medium thick to thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s sweet and malty with a nice caramel note, a little fruit, a light hoppy bitterness and a light alcohol note. Medium to full bodied and remarkably smooth with a hint of warmth.

(On tap at Brouwer’s, & a bargain_ The best malt liquor I’ve ever tasted-- more than that. Clear deep orange with thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel, floral hops, dates. Smooth in the mouth. Malt has some depth but not quite fruity, stays away fron cloying thanks to the hops mild citrus. clean finish

Poured a beautiful light auburn with a fluffy white head. Had a strong smell of caramel and green pear. Just tasted sugary malt, with no complexity whatsover. Thick, syrupy, strong, but one dimensional.

Bottle. Amber pour with some frothy off-white head. Aroma is mostly sweet caramel, some hops also. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, german malt underneath, mildly toasted, with earthy slightly bitter hops to balance the sweetness. Pretty standard american strong ale.

On tap at Flanagan’s Ale House, Louisville, Kentucky. Poured copper with a light tan head. Malty, caramel nose. Flavor was toffee, caramel, and spice. Finish was nicely hopped. The alcohol was well-concealed--this one would sneak up on you!
