Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Pours a nice dark honey-golden, clear with fine bubbles, and a very thick off-white and fairly persistent head. Aroma is strong and malty with undertones of caramel and hops. Flavor is surprisingly hoppy, with a good balance of maltiness and a sweet undertone - there is a fair amount of bitterness, but it is not overwhelming. Texture is smooth and edgy and very pleasing. Overall, another winner from Rogue.

Pours a crystal clear amber with a small beige head that lingers for a little while as a thin cap leaving traces of lacing around the sides. The aroma is sweet caramel malts and a bit of dark fruit and a slight toasted character as well. There are a bit of hops in the background but nothing really noticeable. The taste is much more toasted than the aroma and the toasted malts dominate the taste throughout. There are definitely some dark fruits in there as well as some citrus hops that tingle the tongue slightly in the finish., The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lots of carbonation that accentuates the tingly feeling on the palate. As an amped up version of Dead Guy, it’s a good beer.

Poured a a nice amber/orangish color with a big off white head. Aroma was really mlaty, some spices and hints of alcohol as well. Flavor was really sweet and smooth, nice hints of spices and fruits, but nothing sticks out too well, but decent beer nonetheless.

Hazy amber color. It’ s a strong American Ale, with better flavor than aroma, powerful but not extremely interesting.

Bottle. Insane design, I’m surprised nobody has done this before... certainly a bottle for the wall collection. Pour is lightly hazed honey amber with a patchy, sticky tan head. I’m a huge fan of Dead Guy, always have been, it’s one of the earliest craft beers I was weened on growing up in Oregon, and I’ve developed and sustained a taste for it over the years. The Double Dead Guy has the same corn-heavy but beautiful nose of dirty crystalline candy sugar, sharp (and almost acidic) yeast, and sweet, sweaty, alcoholized fuzel corn, crackers, honey and wet hair... yeah, wet hair. But damn if it doesn’t smell and taste great. I get a bunch of apple and pear when it comes close to room temperature... not bad, not incredible, somewhere between that... hope that helps! Full, thick, frothy, seems no different than regular Dead Guy other than a slight tingle of alcohol right on the back at the end of a drink. I like. Not sure why but I really like.

Dark red pour, frothy cream head. Malty citrus nose. Initially not that much of an off shoot from the standard Dead Guy. Slightly more creamy mouthfeel, some malt, light toffee/caramel. Strong hop presence. As it warms though, improves. Mouthfeel gets even more creamy, more malt and stickiness. Really laces the glass. Clean finishing. Alcohol non-existant. Well done.

Ok, now this is beer! This brew pours a honey colored amber-NESS with a tall, permanent creamy head. Aromas of malted hop-NESS pushing caramel. Full, viscous nectar with mellow effers. The texture is like jello. A goopy malty backbone sustains the hive as a few rampant hop troglodytes run amok on a blind date with futility. Malt man crashes hard but the troglodytes make their mark although infinitesimal. Its a solid beer and very extreme for malty goodness.
