| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 28, 2008 Pours a fairly bright orange that is a tad cloudy with a small unimpressive mostly white head that quickly dissipates. Smells of citusy hops and fruits dominate. First sip is creamy with tangy hops bitterness. A nice malt backbone compliments well. The finish is tasty and bitter with the 9% ABV somewhat hidden. This brew is slightly under carbonated. Not bad but but worth $10/750ml dmtroyer (410), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 28, 2008 750ml bottle. Pours a deep golden amber with an off-white head that doesn’t stick around long. Aroma is not so strong, mostly sweet malt, caramel and some bitter fruit enhanced hops. Flavor profile is strikingly sweet malt and caramel that are well integrated with the grapefruit flavors of the hops. Body is a bit soft overall, and the dry just bitter finish is a bit awkward. A solid brew, but way overpriced on the east coast (as are most rogue brews). LinusStick (1845), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Sep 28, 2008 A nice American strong. I’ve noticed something....most people who have been rating for a long time have rated this lower than others and I am doing the same. Aroma was pretty weak given the ABV. A mix of grassy hops and caramel malt but pretty faint. Pour was a beautiful dark amber with no bubbles and a nice 2 finger off white head. Taste was OK. A little flat/no carbonation with an alcoholic flavor in the front; and some strong caramel malt in the aftertaste with a hot hoppy residue. With more carbonation this would be a lot better. rajendra82 (704), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2008 The bomber was a wonderful blood red in color, but the beer thankfully looked like a normal Dopplebock. The body was clear orange, and formed a two finger thick foamy head quite rapidly. The smell was quite malty, which was a departure from a typical Rogue beer laden with hops. The hops were detectable as a floral and spicy smell, but it melded quite well with the malt. The taste was where this beer really shined. The sweet and caramelized malts were here as they are in any Dopplebock, but they were accompanied by a significant hop bitterness and a resulting spicy and dry finish. While this was a departure from the spirit of the style, it was a welcome change. The beer did suffer a bit on the palette from the high hopping rates, as this did not glide down in a soft manner, and presented a bit of an edgy mouthfeel. I liked it well enough to get it downed quite rapidly. vyvvy (2044), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 27, 2008 Pours orange copper with a minimal white head. The aroma comes across has a typical sweet malt bomb ADA with some earthy hops and alcohol. Medium body that is about like any other of this style. The taste is a disaster, just a complete mess. Overly sweet malt, taste is a bit watery, alcohol beats you over the head and the finish is lots of alcohol burn. This was incredibly disappointing. doubleo (1104), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2008 Bottle. Pours clearish amber with a thin, crisp white head. Smells malty with some booze. Tastes spicy malty and hoppy with lots of booze. NIcely balanced agressive hop and malt profile. I like this beer but it’ll probably taste like ass in a year or so when the hops are gone. Medium body, good carbonation. Papsoe (14997), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 26, 2008 (Bottle 75 cl) Clear deep amber golden with a tall and lively dense head with good retention and some lacing. Burned caramel in the nose as well as some alcohol. Quite full-bodied with notes of burned caramel, nuts and plenty of roasted malt. Rather bitter finish with plenty of alcohol. 180908 tennisjoel (946), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 25, 2008 22 oz bomber covered with red paint. Well, at least we know with this experiment that Double Dead Guy will not suffer from exposure to light. Extremely sweet aroma of caramel. Not a lot of hops detected in the aroma, hopefully they are there or I fear this could become sickly sweet. Luckily, there are some grapefruit citrus hops which cut some of the sweetness. Light astringency, and the flavor is relatively harmless, yet there is nothing that sticks out or excites me all that much. A little bland compared to many of its ilk. Paying $9 for this is not worth it. That said, it is not cloying which I originally feared.
