Sep 26, 2009 bottle from midway in denton tx. poured amberish with a nice white head that would not go away. aroma was strong malt upfront, slight orange, and followed by dark fruits like raisin and prune. flavor was much the same with a nice pine hop bitter added to it. body was heavy on the palate with light-medium carbonation. a good solid brew all around but not sure if it is worth the 15 bucks i paid for it.

Sep 23, 2009 Bottle from Canals. Orange brown pour. Medium clean body with hoppy malt aroma. Hopps and nut could be tasted with a possible orange peel finish. Good brew.

Sep 23, 2009 On tap at Rogue pub location. It’s dead guy on steroids, obviously. Pours a little redder, smells oakier and the taste of the alcohol nearly overwhelms. if that’s what you’re going for, well, DDG is great at it.

Appearance:
Aroma: port-like, dried fruit--prunes, raisons, possibly mango-- intense deep roasted malt
Flavor: Similar to the aromas. Restrained hops may slightly reign in the huge malt flavors--roasted caramel malt, prune, ripe orange notes, roasted milk chocolate.
Comments: Very very big with complex aromas and malt flavors that evolve in the glass. A few sips can go a long way, and gave me a very pleasant, mellow buzz to end my session. This just can’t be compared to a standard beer; better to think of a young, ageable port. The complexity and changing flavors reminded me of the one (and probably only) time that I got to try Sam Adam’s Utopia. It helps to sip and enjoy this slowly over 30 to 60 minutes and all will be right with the world.

Pretty amber color. Fruity aroma with orange and caramel. Big alcohol, big hops. Candied cherry sweetness. Slightly too alcoholic and harsh; only vaguely reminiscent of its far superior little brother.

Sep 12, 2009 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a hazy dark orange brown colored body and a fair lacing. The aroma was malty. The mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of malt hops and caramel. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

Sep 11, 2009 750 ml bottle. Dark copper color with a thick long lasting white head. Faint aroma of molasses and cinnamon. Very malty taste, strong brown sugar component. Fairly well balanced with hops, but hops are not dominant. Bittersweet finish.
