Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Coolest bottle ever! Beer is pretty good also. I think that some time would make it even better. I thought it was going to be sweet but the hop presence took care of that. The nose was not so good to me though, kind of smelled like a nice bread on cardboard. The taste comes out with burnt caramel on the back of the tongue.

2009 Label. Pours a beautiful golden colour with minimal head. The aroma is fruity and has hints of hops. The taste is quite similar and the hops are certainly evident. This is strong in taste and is an excellent bitter beer, the finish to this beer was also very good. I would say to those who are willing to pay for it they will remember this beer.

Vintage 2008 bottle. Big red bottle. D² for short. Aroma of a richly malted BarleyWine. Pours a deep wooded reddish brown color, rocky light tan head. Smells of toffee and caramel, nice toasted grain. I love Munich malts. A bit of leather, fruit, and malt. Lots of carbonation, fizzy mouthfeel. Flavor has a rich musty malt flavor. Very rich malt character, lots of caramel and toasted cereal flavors. Sharp bitterness. Very earthy, wooded hopped finish. Perfectly balanced, like all other ROGUE beers. Heavy bodied, thick creamy texture. Chewy lacing. It is a meal.

26 oz bottle, but says 9% abv. Pours a clear copper with a large, foamy, beige head that lasts. Taste is of hops, pine, citrus, fruit, caramel and some roasted malt. Similar aroma. A little sweet with a dry and bitter finish. Oily body. The alcohol is hidden rather well. Pretty well balanced. A slight step up from the normal version, but not enough to give it a better score. Very easy to drink, satisfying and pretty enjoyable. Worth picking up again.

Sampled on 10/30/2009. This American Strong Ale pours a medium orange gold color from a big red ceramic 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and malty. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and floral. Nice carbonation. Good balance. Definitely a ramped up dead guy, which is not a bad thing. Seems to be a little boozy with a fairly noticeable alcohol bite for a 9% beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

I should preface this by saying that Dead Guy, especially fresh DG is one of my favourites, but this "doubling" doesn’t carry over. Too much hops in this one and it is much booz-ier. The alcohol is very upfront.

A great high alcohol beer. Very similar to the Dead Guy Ale this beer is easy to drink. Pours a nice redish copper color with small head that sticks to the glass. Has a very well balanced flavor without the alcohol flavor one might expect from a 9% beer.

2008 bottle - Pours amber with suspended yeast flakes and a sizable off-white head. It has a very malty aroma with hints of dark fruit. The flavor is sweet and malty up front with dark fruit and wood characteristics then the hops hits. It’s moderately to heavily hopped and has a bitter finish. It put me in mind of some barley wines.

Copper/ amber colour with a off white head. Malty floral aroma with hints of light pine and citrus. Taste is floral, pine and citrus hops with a touch of malt. An obvious; by the name, like drinking 2 Dead Guy Ales at once.
