Pours with a rocky, off-white head covering a slightly hazy, dark red body. Strong lacing rings. Aroma contains some citrus hops, fruits (apples and maybe peaches), and toffee as well as some other muted malts. Taste is lightly fruity, then a coppery-malty middle, folowed by bitterness and a slightly metallic finish. No real sweetness to be found in this brew. Watery mouthfeel, light bubbles. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 15, 2008 22 oz bottle. Faint hoppy aroma, pours dark brown with frothy orange head. Very hoppy with a highly roasted, bordering on burnt flavor. Surpsingly crisp for a dark ale. Well balanced, and well executed. This isn’t one of my more favorite styles, but appreciate what they’ve done here. GMUcrew7 (365), Mason, Ohio, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | May 14, 2008 Pours an absolutely beautiful rusty red with a full, fast dissipating cream colored head. Aroma is mostly the sprucy hops. The flavor is great and has a very nice balance but the lack of body really detracts from the overall enjoyment of the beer and leaves you wanting a little more. crzyhoya (2), Charleston, South Carolina, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | May 10, 2008 This beer is just my style so the following may be a bit biased.
This beer looks and smells unassuming, but when you finally have the chance to taste it, a new world opens up to you.
Red ales are normally similar- simple sweet yet roasted flavors with a hint of hops and a smooth finish - this one presents a different example to palate.
It starts as the rest, sweet and unassuming, but the hoppy middle and finish significantly multiply the flavor qualities and the overall experience adds up to a fantanstic combination of sweetness, hoppiness, and drinkability. I highly recommend it! zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | May 9, 2008 Looks and tastes like a lemon-tea with hops. Might need a a punchier malt or even oatmeal for some body. Ehhh...not real bad, but it almost doesn’t even come across as beer. Gusgus (176), Mölndal, Sweden

Flavor and palate is thin and a bit sour, like bloodgrape without the sugar. Very dry finish. peter48er (161), Liverpool, Merseyside, England

Large mouthful of hops but without the sweetness often found in highly hopped ales. Little corbonation but a nice spicy, refreshing beer. Very much to my taste mirjukka (704), LOHJA, Finland
