It comes out of the tap a beautiful dark opaque brown - very inviting. Aroma is strong and malty, not at all complex. Flavor is malty and smoky, quite smooth, with minimal bitterness.

Bottle: Deep copper red; hazy in appearance. Medium head; dissipated fairly quickly; nice lacing. Hops dominate the nose on this one, but some light malty tones are present underneath. There is also some citrousy spiciness in there. Some light malt character is present right when it hits your tongue, but then is covered up by the hops, although it returns briefly at the beginning of the finish. The citrus is somewhat present all the way through. Not sure what they used for dry hopping, but the whole hop character is pretty uniform. Long dry bitter finish. Medium high carbonation level.

This must be a very new bottle, aroma is flowery fragrant fresh hops, like it was passed through that Dogfishhead fresh hop filterjust before serving, little hints of caramel in background, taste,ok this is pretty much a darker IPA, fresh hops totally dominate the taste, with the malt having no chance to provide adequate backing. Very dry, slightly metallic finish. For a hophead like me,this was excellent

Deep reddish color with a fairly creamy tan head. Lots of roasted malt and hops both represented well in the flavor (despite what the expletive-laden review immediately below me would indicate). A bit of coffee-like malt flavor initially with a nice piney hop flavor balancing it out in the finish. My only real complaint is that it’s a tad thin on the palate but overall a great beer either by itself or with a variety of food.

Another overrated beer from perhaps the most overrated microbrewery in existence. It’s not very hoppy. It’s not very malty. Kind of tastes a little of Florida tap water (that, by the way, is not a good thing). Why is this shitty company so fucking popular? The red star. The communist name dropping? When did douchebag hippies get such a big foothold in american beer "culture?"

The aroma to this one is great, as well as the colour and the palate. The downside is the slightly overbearing hoppiness, but if you’re in to that, this is your beer. I would not mind having this one again.

Huge hop boquet coming forma deep amber brew with a thick off white head. Huge citris hop flavor balanced by carmel malth. Medium mouth feel with a super dry finish. I cold drink this beer all day long.

From some undated notes. I remember this was a 12oz bottle from Old Chicago that said it was the dry hopped version. Slightly hazy copper penny with a one finger beige head that fades to a film. Aroma of piney hops, some caramel and toffee malts, and some light earth. Flavor is toffee and pine, light sugar cookies, and lots of earth and dirtiness--a little too dirty for me. Moderate high carbonation with a medium body.
