12 oz. bottle labeled as "Dry Hopped St. Rogue Red Ale." Red/Amber pour with some big, dark floaties moving around in my glass and looking rather unattractive. Piney and citrusy hop aroma. Caramel malt and piney hop flavor. Seems more like a weak IPA than an Amber Ale. Once again, Rogue does what they seem to do most often: Offer up a decent but forgettable beer.

Taster at The Mondial de la Biere 07. The color is amber with a beige head It has a sweet caramel taste. The flavor is of malt with just enough bitterness. You can also taste some citrus flavor mostly oranges.

Dry Hopped, 22oz Bottle; Sampled July 2007
Served lightly chilled, not cold and it is a total gusher. Pours with a three-finger thick, large bubbled amber-tinged tan colored head that sits atop an almost clear, deep red colored beer. The aroma is pungently hoppy with notes of candied orange zest, ruby-red grapefruit, tangelo, lychee as well as sharper notes of hemp, pine and hints of chives. Quite a pronounced fruity nose; mostly this is the hops, but sweet caramelized malt sugar aromatics also contribute to a soft berry like aroma.

Lightly sweet, though this seems to be more hop influenced than malt; at least this is the case up front where the fruity hop notes of citrus are noticeable. Towards the finish some lightly caramelized, sweet malt flavors come through. Quite light on the palate, this beer is meant for drinking a couple pints of. The beer is not quite as hoppy in flavor as the aroma seemed, but it is still totally a hop focused brew. The hop notes here lean towards flavor and aromatics as opposed to bitterness. The bitterness is present here, but serves as a backdrop to the other flavors. Notes of currants mix in with the citrus flavors as well as a touch of pine / herbal character; all of these seem to contribute a light tartness to this beer.

This is a nice beer; it really would be a good session beer for those who like a lot of hops, but want to drink a few more beers than a typical IPA would allow.

Pours to a reddish-brown color with a smallish head. Malty aroma. Foamy mouthfeel. Good, medium-bodied flavor with some lingering hops, but not terribly long lasting; well balanced. I’m not usually a fan of Reds, but this isn’t bad.

12 oz. bottle. Pours dark amber/brown with little off white head. Head is gone almost immediately. Medium sweet smell, with a hint of hops. Sweet caramel taste with i twinge of hops on the back end. Medium bodied with mild bitter after taste. Even with the medium weight, very drinkable and wish I had more on hand.

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm) Reddish brown colour with brief off-white head. Fruity nose with notes of wild berries, caramel and fresh hops, hints of pine needles as well. Fruity taste with dryish malty notes, wild berries, caramel and hops. Rather dry, medium body. Hops are more evident in the aroma, replaced by malt and caramel in the taste, making it quite balanced. Hardly exciting, but definitely well made and tasty.

Dry hopped version. I really liked this ale. Caramel amber taste that is overwhelmed by a powerful complex hop flavor. Bitter finish.
