greig (169), Hamilton, New Zealand Jun 22, 2009 Nutella. More nutella. That’s about it really. Maybe I’m missing the point, as people seem to rate this really well. The head is thin and fades to nothing really quickly. The body is also thin and a little prickly.
I think I’d like to try this almost flat and on handpump. It might be a much better beer. It also possibly just doesn’t travel to NZ well. Never mind. I’ll just have another Dead Guy Ale, that is an awesome beer! unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jun 17, 2009 pours a dark mahogany with a slightly beige head. Aroma of nutella, some toasted malt, chocolate. Beautiful, not cloying. Flavour full and silky smooth - wonderful malts, milk chocolate with some dry nuttiness. A slight oiliness as well. Slightly bitter finish. A beautiful, beautiful beer warrenc (21), Oregon, USA Jun 11, 2009 22 oz. bottle
pours deep amber-brown with soft tan head. the aroma is nutty-chocolate, very tasty. taste of light smoke, coffee and toasted malt balanced with light hop, almost no bitterness. coffee and hazelnut linger on the tongue. this is a fine brown ale and for anyone who really likes they’re ’filberts’, this is a must try. Cirrhosis (607), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 3, 2009 This brew pours a very dark opaque brown and any head that was produced while pouring vanished instantly leaving only a skiff of tiny bubbles floating at the top of my beer. The aroma is very desert like with caramel, venila, milk chocolate, and some nutty goodness, how ever the smell was weak and hard to pick up I accidentally snorted up some beer trying to get the aroma. Very tasty beer; coffee, milk chocolate with some very rich tasting malts makes this beer a pleasure to drink. I can even taste the hazel nut it’s not just a marketing gimmick, the beer leaves a nice bitter after taste. I also enjoy the fact the taste isn’t to overpowering like some of the other Rogue brew’s. One of the only draw backs of this beer I noticed was it felt a bit thin and maybe a touch over carbonated. This is a great tasting beer, by far my favorite Rogue. gunnar (486), Sandnes, Norway May 31, 2009 Bottle. Pours deep red/brownish with a generous creamy tan head. Aroma of hay. Taste of caramel and toffee with a long smooth malty aftertaste Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada May 31, 2009 Rusty reddish brown with small off-white cap that vanished way way to quick. A good ammount of hazelnut aroma is here, no doubt about it. Accompanied by roasted malts, warm chocolate, burnt sugar and has an overall fresh smell. Tastes pretty much the same as it smells plus some hops and minus the burnt sugar. Really tasty malts! Comes across on the sweet side. Nice creamy finish, slight bitterness. DigitalMan (113), Idaho, USA May 29, 2009 On tap. Flavor and feel are slightly weak, but still a nice nutty good looking brew. Harsebrau (164), Kansas City, Missouri, USA May 29, 2009 Enjoyed on ’d-day’ after the ink dried...so to speak. Robust nutty aroma and flavor. Smooth and easy to drink.
