PaulHegedus (458), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Feb 23, 2009 Bottle. This beer is caramel brown in the glass with a one inch head. The aroma is full of hazelnut and creamy gourmet coffee, freshly brewed; there’s some toffee, loads of toasted nuts, fruit, vanilla. Really inviting. The mouthfeel is sadly a bit thin. I taste plenty of hazelnut, a really nice coffee flavour, medium roast. There’s plenty of hop kick to the flavour also, with fresh wood, toasted nuts, fresh chocolate, some fruitiness like pomegranate, a bit of water. HOPSHUNTER (376), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 23, 2009 Great American Brown. Kills Newcastle IMHO. Sweet malty nutty flavor. Good beer! thejon375 (390), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 22, 2009 I hate hazelnuts, but this beer is amazing. Great flavor and nice thickness on the palate. A must try. branspra (204), Arlington, Virginia, USA Feb 20, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a large, frothy, off-white head. Lacing is strong. Aromas of brown sugar, chocolate, and roasted malts. Palate is amazing with an initial lively carbonation, slick mouthfeel and then finishing with a creamy aftertaste. Flavors of chocolate, roasted malts, and then a nice hoppy finish. Well done Rogue! iamqueensblvd (178), , Iowa, USA Feb 18, 2009 I found this upon a recommendation from a friend when i told him i liked new castle brown ale. This beer is so full of flavor it is delicious. Poured a hazy brown color with thick brown head. Great Beer jupitervast (1), , Ohio, USA does not count Feb 16, 2009 This is a new favorite on mine, in the brown ale style. A- Pours a nice dark brown with creamy light brown head that is small and mostly lasting, fair lacing that does not stick to the glass
S- Warm, delicious nose that is dominated by roasty and toasty malts, hazelnut tones (of course), as well as a hint of toffee and vanilla; truly an amazing and fun aroma that I feel exceeds most other brown ales
T- Not a disappointment as hazelnut maltiness is pervasive throughout, some mild bitterness intially that is followed by sweet chocolate, toffee, and coffee; duration is short and malty; no noticeable alcohol taste
M- Surprisingly underwhelming mouthfeel that is quite watery and light for this genre, soft carbonation; the gap in quality between taste and mouthfeel is surprising
D- Low abv and delicious aroma makes this a great choice for a post-dinner/evening drink, I could get plenty of mileage sipping and smelling this tasty quaff, but several pints in a row would not pose much of a problem
