The appearance is reddish brown, tan head, clear body. The flavor is awesome, immediate hazelnut up front, malts, caramel, then sliding into chocolate. The mouthfeel is medium, slightly on the thick side. On the palate there is a modest hop bitterness, making for a clean finish. There is a lingering hazelnut flavor, which is pleasant. Definitely near the top of the brown ale style. ant880 (39), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 19, 2009 This is among the best brown ales I have tasted. Color is a deep brown, hazelnut aroma is present but not over powering. Taste is a nice mix of hazelnut and malt. If you like brown ales this is a must try. scoth (274), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA

nut, caramel, with some subtle notes of coffee and raisins. Medium, velvety and crisp body. Bit malt flavor up front, lots of sweet hazelnut, caramel, even creamy, with a little citrus in the aftertaste. The hop characteristics are very
subdued. Well balanced and drinkable. Rustyham (556), miami, Florida, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jan 18, 2009 I expected a lot more from Rogue, this tastes like any other macrobrew Brown ale, but with a slight Hazelnut smell. And I hate hazelnut. Dacrza (252), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 18, 2009 Nice, solid brown body with a one-finger off-white head... hardly opaque, with the faintest light at the glass’s bottom... light, almost nonexitstent aroma--some malts, but otherwise nondescript--on purpose? mellow, softly nestling effervescent in the teeth... presence is substantial... chewy, definitely nutty... surprsingly 33 IBUs as the hops are not up front... pleasantly flavorful with a malty breath late... "Pacman Yeast"? I love a beer that proudly displays its ingredients... having had a run on browns over the holidays, I had to sample this, and the results were as expected--solid with a twist of Rougish flair, hazelnut coffee evoked... 41cubs (134), , New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 15, 2009 This is like the simple comfort food version of a beer. Smells of raw nuttinesss, mayo, and light toffee maltiness but very faint and delicate. Flavor is very smooth medium malt with a fresh light finish of a grassier grain. The look is of a hazy garnet core wrapped in murky mocha brown. Real solid medium, velvety and evenly balanced mouthfeel. Overall this is like the toddler child of a really good doppellbock. topherh (899), Kearney, Missouri, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 14, 2009 Poured brown with a big beige head. Hazelnut and sweet malt aroma. Flavor is dominated by the nut extract. If you like hazelnuts I guess this is your beer. It was a little much for me. webbcreative (111), , Oklahoma, USA
