LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 16, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee (hazelnut I suppose), slight nuts. Flavor is quite nutty (hazelnuts and walnuts) with a slight sweet malt backbone. Good beer, interesting flavor! probstk (1007), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Sep 10, 2008 650 ml bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Clear, fairly deep copper with a tan head that fades fairly quickly.
Aroma: Roasted almonds and other roasted nuts, a bit chocolaty, seems quite dry.
Palate: Medium-ish body with moderate-soft carbonation.
Flav.: Still plenty of roasted nuts with light caramel and a hint of tang, still a touch of milk chocolate and just a hint of grassy (?) hops.
A bit heavy-handed on the nuts, kinda like my previous girlfriend... FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA Sep 10, 2008 22 oz. bottle from Sam’s Wine (South Loop, chicago, IL). Pours a deep dark tobacco-y brown with nice tan head. Aromas are lighter than expected, some chocolate that provides a touch of a bittersweet element and light nutty sweetness that balances well with the bitterness. Medium bodied, lighter than expected on the palate. Finishes with some nice chocolate and nut notes with hoppy bitterness. Pretty good. Cheers! taalhiker (179), Dayton, Ohio, USA Sep 10, 2008 From bottle. Part of a Dayton Beer Tasting July event. Pours a cloudy brown with a small mocha head. Aroma sweet caramel and smoke. Thinner than I expected. The finish had a slightly bitter bite. emerica56 (575), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Sep 9, 2008 Pours a cloudy brown with a reddish tint when light passes through it. The head fades rather quick but the aroma is nice and nutty with a sweet caramel sugar finish. The texture is bitter with a mild bitterness. You can really taste the hazelnut and some toasted almond. The finish has some bitter notes that stick to the sides of your mouth with a sweet caramel malt. Overall it is nice refreshing brew. Chrism86 (273), Melbourne, Australia Sep 5, 2008 Pours auburn tending dark brown with a cream/tan coloured head. Nose has huge dry nutty characters. Peanut, hazelnut, wood its all there! Palate is more subdued than nose. Caramel malt dominates with mild nuttiness. Finishes with a touch of dry hop bitterness that adds complexity. Interesting... Stew41 (1042), Caulfield, Australia Sep 5, 2008 Weirdo beer. Amazing nose of chocolate and nuts, hazelnuts (!) and a touch of wood. Completely seductive. Nuts front up again in the palate before some fizz and malt drive the finish. KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Sep 1, 2008 Updated: Mar 16, 2009On tap at McGloughlin’s in Kyoto. Deep brown and frothy. Like a chocolate hazelnut malted milkshake. Rich, thick, creamy, and full of the flavors of nuts, caramel, chocolate, and lightly roasted dark malts. A real treat, though definitely cloying, and more than two starts to make me dizzy.
