alexanderj (2204), Chino Hills, California, USA Aug 29, 2008 On tap at Yard House Brea; remember having this a couple years ago and not liking it; that has definitely changed. Aroma of nuts, chocolate, caramel and butter. Flavor was the same; sweet with buttery nuts. Good on the palate. Nice color. Very good for the style. beerchugger (285), Colorado, USA Aug 26, 2008 Updated: May 5, 2009Pours a real nice brown color with an atractive thick and tan pillowy head. Smells of rich roasted malts, some nuts and nice chocolate. The taste is much of the same. The roasted malts are very prevalent, coupled with chocolate malts and a real nice nutty flavor. The body is just a little too light., but not bad. The finish is hoppy, yet smooth. It’s not quite as good as I remember it, yet I’m surprised I still like it as much as I do. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 26, 2008 Draught at The Flying Saucer in Nashville. Poured a dark mahogany color with three fingers of off white head. Aroma is of sweet malt with a faint nut aroma. Flavor is very sweet with a strong hazelnut tone and some bitter chocolate. Too sweet to drink more than one, but overall a solid beer. carruthm (1109), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 23, 2008 dark brown with a medium/small head. malty aroma strong hazelnut tones in the flavor smooth body doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Aug 22, 2008 22oz bottle thanks to NoworkNJ. Pours clearish brown/red with a fizzy offwhite head, no lace. Smells malty and sweet with a sort of wet dog, nut flavor. Tastes sweet nutty and chocolatey. Very tasty but not sickly sweet or nutty. Medium body, semi-dry, good carbonation. hamsterglory (48), Bryan, Texas, USA Aug 22, 2008 not usually a brown ale drinker or a fan of nut flavors in beer, i chose rogue’s hazelnut brown nectar on the high recommendation of my friend seth haines. immediately i notice that the ale pours very brown, cut through with deep-purplish shards of light rather than the redder, cherry cola appearance i usually notice in "brown ales." the aroma screams hazelnuts and dry, dry piecrust filling. am i drinking this or slicing into it? should i drink this alone or over vanilla bean ice cream or paired with a rich cup of coffee? before tasting this beer, it looks and smells too big to stand alone - it may need something else to help carry the burden. the first sip is all hazelnuts - huge and chattering between my teeth like squirrels swirling tree trunks in sport. second sip, and on, reveals deeper levels of sweetened chocolaty malts, coupled up and peppered with lightly spiced hops. this is an extremely large, but well balanced ale. too rich for occasional drinking, but perfect for a special occasion or celebratory evening with friends: which is exactly how i prefer most of rogue’s beers. BillKismet (1894), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 22, 2008 While I am allergic to hazelnuts, it didn’t stop me from enjoying sips of this on a couple occasions. Brown bodied with thinnish head. Hazlenut aroma reminiscent of candied popcorn, a quality that characterizes the flavor as well. Distinct nuttiness, smooth and easy malting, rather thin mouthfeel. Enjoyable in low doses though the hazlenut tastes could overstay their welcome past a glass or 2. BiddleBrau (303), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Aug 21, 2008 Ruby copper color with dense tan head. Rich malty aroma. Hazlenut is prominent along with the malty sweetness. This became less enjoyable as I finished. Too much hazelnut
