Nose of toasty malts, and as you would expect, hazelnuts, like nutella, some chocolate, with a fair amount of fresh hops blasting up. Nice toffee and hazelnut flavours with sweet cocoa and a good dose of bittering hops to balance the act out. Finishes much like the flavour, just a bit thinner than I expected. Good stuff. Nose is all sweet hazlenut. First sip is all hazelnit then roasted cocoa and just a slight dry hop finish. Very good brown ale. Would like to see a little more complexity. kpresley77 (134), Jackson, Georgia, USA

Aroma is excelent hazelnut and leads to nuts and malt flavor with a clean finish. Beautiful brown color and perfect carbonation. 22oz. bottle Felsenbrau (19), Middletown, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 19, 2008 Pours a clear dark amber with a thin light tan head and very little lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel and nuts. Flavor is sweet, not overpoweringly, not very complex. Clean, not very heavy, more nut flavors appear as it warms. Easy to drink, not much complexity of character. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 17, 2008 Pours a cloudy tan with a dense head - aromas of honey and maple (maybe that’s the hazelnut??) A bit under carbonated relative to a lot of ales, but it worked for this brew - allowing the malty flavor to shine through without blasting you with bubbles. The malt presence reminds me of unprocessed malt extract you lick off the cans when making home-brew - heavier sweetness than a lot of beer, but not overdone. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, sweetness and some nuttiness. Flavor is nutty and some chocolate. Overall, not a bad ale, but not my favorite either. Brown ales in general are not my favorite style. tarjei (1745), Bryne, Norway
