Pours see through brown with a small head. Aroma is a sweet nutty flavor. Has a definite hazelnut flavor with a hint of brown sugar. A slight malty finish. Good beer if you like hazelnut. hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Mar 24, 2008 draft- liquified toffee and caramel, with some boozyness in the background. Little in the way of head retention, and a little thickness in the mouthfell detracted, but overall, this was a very nice treat. Madsnp (607), Odense C, Denmark Mar 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours brown wih a small lightbrown head. Aroma is nutty and malty. Flavour is full of sweet malts and could maybe use some more hops to balance it out. The sample I’ve tasted at Potten in Skive was close to the exp. date, so this might be the reason for the lack of hops. keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Mar 21, 2008 One of my favorites from Rogue. Wonderful nutty aroma. Flavor is hazel nut and vanilla. Very nice hoppy finish. Incredibly smooth. daknole (2802), Plantation, Florida, USA Mar 19, 2008 This was the first Rogue beer I ever had and it hooked me on the Rogue brewery immediately. Sweet hazelnut flavor with some great maltiness and a hint of hops balances this brew perfectly. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Mar 18, 2008 Updated: Sep 16, 2008On tap at Plan B, W Hartford CT. Absolutely zero head on this one by the time it got to me, but I’m not much of a stickler for the appearance category unless it looks like piss. Aroma started off sort of juicy, grape-ish. A little later it reminded distinctly of strawberry-rhubarb pie, fruits and delectable, buttery crust included. This doughy, buttery pie-crustiness continued throughout the flavor with the fruits/general malty sweetness sort of switching off from time to time. I honestly don’t think I would be able to identify hazelnut if given a blind sampling of it, so maybe that turned into this pie crust I keep talking about. In any event, I thought this was very unique, and very nice if you’re in the mood for some smooth sweetness.8-4-8-4-16/4.0
Rerate 9/16/08. Interesting. Was I served the wrong beer the first time? Was it just way too cold as all tap beers from that location are? Was I just an idiot? Hard to say, but my goodness, there are hazelnuts here, fresh, nature-filled, fleshy hazelnuts comprise the majority of the aroma. I could make arguments for some earth and a touch of spice, but really it’s all from the nuts. Flavor not quite as nutty, but a general nuttiness still plays a prominent role with some chocolatey notes and semi-roasted sweet malt coming through more. Finish actually goes back to that huge hazelnut though, right back where you started. Very tasty and uniquely nutty in my experience. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 17, 2008 3/8/08 - On tap at Ginger Man in Dallas. Pours brown with amber hues. Nose is hazelnut and caramel and some some nut. Hazelnut and chocolate. Little bit of hops. Tasty, but a bit overpowering.
