dmac (1418), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Sep 26, 2009 650 ml bottle from my sister for my 36th bday, thanks Car. Poured a deep dark chestnut brown with a smaller sized beie creamy head. Aroma had distinct hazelnut but yet it wasn’t overpowering and some nice chocolate and brown bread malts were blended in. The palate had a nice mediu body that coated the mouth with a creamy feel and finished with a touch of dry bitterness that could only be from the hops despite none being easily detected in the aroma or the flavor. The flavor had soft subtle hazelnut at first but with each additional sip the hazelnut became more pronounced as well as some sour milk chocolate and brown bread toast. This one was fairly well done especially considering it was a Rogue. strowlands8 (75), Ontario, Canada Sep 25, 2009 Roasted malt, and hazelnut, with slight tones of chocolate. Amber brown with a nice big cream fluffy head that leaves amazing lacing. Tastess like a lot of chocolate and nuts, with a bit of roasted malts. Almost like a liquid hershey hazelnut, with lots of deliciousness. Wicked mouthfeel with a bit of carbonation, I’d say moderate carbonation. Overall a great rogue happy to find it up in Canada at the LCBO. MereLikesBeer (153), Royal Oak, Michigan, USA Sep 23, 2009 22 oz. Bottle
This was my first experience with Rogue beers. I have used in cooking, and drinking applications :) It goes great in a swiss onion soup. It poured a really nice dark brown color with a really nice tan head (nice and big too!). It’s aroma is awesome, dark malty, roasted nuts, sweet and caramel. I love the taste of this beer. It’s chocolaty, and all of the aromas translate directly to the taste of the beer. Nutty, malty, has a great mouthfeel, very very well balanced. I like it a lot! TizzleJizzle (46), Garland, Texas, USA Sep 23, 2009 Aroma of roasted nuts and malts. Deep brown color with superb lacing. Tasted amazing! I initially noticed the chocolate followed by a smooth finish of bread, walnut, and malty flavors. Lively carbonation and wonderful context on the way down. Overall this is the best brown ale I’ve had so far! CUJO (339), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 21, 2009 750ml: pint glass: gorgeous pour of opaque, deep mahagony, earthy brown leaving a 2 finger tan head. Nose has loads of malt and biscuit, dark sugars. Some caramel and strong nutty tones. The taste is deep and complex... the malts and biscuit are back, carried by a suprisingly creamy, medium bodied, medium carbonated texture. Aftertaste reveals very light hops as well as some roasted qualities. Great brew! Wombata (74), Kobe, Japan Sep 20, 2009 On tap at Portland Intl airport.
Aroma: Roasted malt
Flavor: very nutty, roasted malt, balanced with firm, underlying bitterness. Long, dry hazelnut finish
Comments: Full bodied, The intitally rounded, soft mouthfeel is followed by some tongue tingling carbonation. Superb palate! Excellent flavor and balance. Most brown ales I’ve tried are bland and pretty dull; but not this one! jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Sep 19, 2009 (bottle). Dark brown/amber color. Medium tan head. Nutty malt aroma. Sweet malt and nut flavor. Avg duration. Smooth finish. Thin texture. Moderate carbonation. Spare lacing. awiseman01 (318), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Sep 12, 2009 Bottle from Crown #6. Pours semi-clear reddish brown, minimal white head. Nose is heavy stale malt and a little discouraging. Flavor is dry and stale. There are hints of brown malt and hazelnut that poke through, but something has gone terribly wrong with this perticular bottle (I hope, just my bottle, not the batch). Mild carbonation and relatively easy going down. Just not what I’d hoped for.
