Flavor is nutty and malty with a lot of toasted hazel nut on the back end. Appearance shows a dark amber body with a frothy light brown head that goes away. Okay lacing. Mouthfeel is creamy with soft carbonation. Pretty good! beerbuzzmontreal (2922), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 13, 2005 Pours a clear reddish brown color with a thin offwhite head. Mild aroma of malt and hazelnut. Mild flavor of malt and nuts, the finish leaves a chalky and dry feeling. Light to medium body, soft carbonation. This is a major let down, I used to love this beer but now either my tastes have changed or the quality of the beer has gone downhill. Dogbrick (2901), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Pours a dark brown color with a medium light tan head. Nice spidery lacing. Huge caramel aroma along with the telltale hazelnut. Somewhat rich with a nice mixture of malt, nuts, caramel and hops in the flavor. The finish is rich and nutty. I like this one. Glouglouburp (2877), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 9, 2009 In short: An intensely hazelnut flavoured brown ale. Straight to the point.
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed fresh soon after purchase.
The look: Cloudy brown body topped by a medium beige head
In long: Nose of hazelnuts and milk chocolate. Taste is more of the same. The beer feels very creamy despite the very active carbonation. Hazelnuts, milk chocolate, more hazelnuts, a touch of vanilla, more hazelnuts, some butter (peanut butter). The beer sure ain’t complex but it is like nothing else. A really fun beer but I wouldn’t drink that all night long. Let’s just say that the first half of the bottle is a lot more fun than the second half. A bit too sweet and that creamy/buttery sensation is a bit too much for a session beer. As sweet and nutty as my aunt Alice. Every time I see the poor lady she asks me if I’d like some white chocolate and she hands me her denture. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 23, 2003 Chocolate, caramel aroma, chestnut colour, with a large toffee head. Roasted, candied malt flavour, mild tootsie roll taste as well, nutty towards the end. Well balanced, light bodied, nice bitterness. Really good example. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA

Hazelnut aroma and maybe chocolate? Taste is amazing, sweet, rich, hazelnut and chocolate tastes and ends bitter. Very smooth. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA

Sadly, it's hard to find in NYC! After tasting the delicious Boyne and Casta brown ales, this one's even better than those great beers were. after4ever (2822), Brier, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 3, 2006 Bomber. Astonishingly good for a brown. Pours deep mahogany with a SuperFund-size billowing tan head. Sweet, chocolatey, lightly filbert-y (the northwest name for "hazelnuts") nose. Fairly light body, medium carb. Sweet, gentle, almost neutral attack that gives way quickly to sweet malts on the mid palate. This is really, really flavorful for a brown, but no matter how many dull browns you’ve had, it still tastes like one. Oddly enough. Clean, neutral finish. Good stuff.
