Aroma is nutty and roasty, very appetizing. Body is a little thin for the style, but not bad. Flavour is wonderful - hazelnut, toffee & roasted malt. Nice bitterness in the finish. Quite good stuff. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 25, 2005 Pours transparent brown with ruby overtones. Tan head clings to the side of the glass. The aroma is hazelnut coffee and hops. The first sip made me say wow now there is something different. The flavor is amazing. The hazelnut flavor really comes through in the first sip. I let the glass warm a little while reading some of the reviews here and I think that was wise. This is bursting with goodness from a style that I usually find quite drab. There is also malt and some roasted flavor and even some vanilla. I think it is very balanced and while it isn’t too thick it feels good in the mouth almost buttery. This is my favorite nut brown ale now. My first rating of a Rogue beer as well and I must say I’m quite impressed with this one. Volgon (2490), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 9, 2009 Draft @ Cheeseburger Island Style, Reno. Pours a medium, clear amber-brown color; light tan head with good retention and shimmering lacing; solid pour. Really nice oily nuttiness and hints of brown sugar and chocolate in the nose; light vanilla; generous maltiness without being sweet. Medium mouthfeel: lots of toasty, sweet maltiness, light coffee and milk chocolate; a bit of mineral bitterness balancing things; just the mildest amount of a hazelnut syrupiness keeping this from being insanely good. Lasting toasty finish, nuttiness, chocolate. FlacoAlto (2482), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 7, 2003 Brown beer, very clear. Thin Tan head that does not last long. Not over the top Hazelnut flavor, but it does kick in in the finish, a nice subtle note. A bit of the Hazelnut note in the nose as well. I like that the sweetness in this beer is very subtle, I hate when these beers are over-sweetened. The front taste is malty, and I can't pull out any taste of the hops, which I was not really expecting to. KAggie97 (2478), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA

I have been in love with the flavor ever since. This is an exceptional brew, and if you are lucky enough to get it, then GET IT!!! Tastes just as advertised- immediate rush of hazlenut but with a coffee-like finish. Extremely well-balanced on all fronts. YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany
