I can’t really sense the hazelnut, but it is without doubt a beer with good quality. Could be more agressive. jazz88 (2238), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 18, 2002 Tap at the Rogue Pub/Public House in Newport, OR. Dark brown to black with ruby touches. Laced brown head. Big hazelnut sweet flavor. Smooth and malty. Re-Rate 11/18/02 from a bottle. A nice dark brown color with a yellow-brown head. Sweet nut malty aroma. The hazelnut comes through strong the middle of the beer. Miksu (2231), Jyväskylä, Finland

Sweetish, nutty and chocolatey aroma with soft roastedness. Very pleasant aroma. Sweet, chocolatey, nutty and very soft flavor. Slightly fruity, little bitterness. Very long hazelnut finish. A bit too sweet. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 21, 2004 Not an ale, or even a beer, but "nectar", eh? Only Rogue has the moxie to pull that off, and pull it off, they do!
Color is a perfect brown, reddish at the sides. Solid, thick, bubbly tannish head. Aroma is swimming in nuts, completely nutty, call the boys in white coats with the butterfly nets..this ale is totally nuts!! A touch of cocoa in the nose, also, but the hazelnut is king of the castle here.
On the palate: buzzing with hops, lush, full maltiness, medium to full body. This one rare brown ale that is brimming over with character! Persistently smooth and satisfying, with a late fruitiness that shows up in the finish.
Another winner from the reliable Rogue stable!

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 28, 2009 This one didn’t turn me on too much, brown ales do that a lot of the time and this one with the hazelnut didn’t seem to help. Looked ok in the glass though the head didn’t hang around, caramel mainly stood out in the aroma and also in the taste with the nuts playing a secondary role. Kinz (2215), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 7, 2003 Morimoto bottling. Deep chestnut brown color, nice head, but it faded away. The initial taste was of a traditional, smooth brown ale. As it warmed, some interesting cola flavors began coming through. The end of the glass was very interesting, with hazelnut blending in beautifully with the malts and hops. A fine brown ale. DYCSoccer17 (2200), Davis, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 3, 2005 Mild roasty chocolatey nose with a mild citrus hop notes and relatively no aromas of hazelnuts. Mildly hazy amber color with a yellowish tan head that dissipates pretty quickly. Roasty star with some mild hints of sweet hazelnuts in the middle. Finishes chocolatey and roasty. This is very well balanced and very nicely done! Need more aroma, though. willblake (2187), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 4, 2004 Morimoto HazelNut Ale. Pours a deep walnut/reddish brown/dark amber as the glass empties; there is an ample head that is nice and creamy. Aroma is definitely as subtle as you might expect from an actual hazelnut, coffee, slight alcohol presence in nose seems appropriate for a brown ale. Taste is mildly roasty malt, coffee for sure...hazelnut coffee. Some ripe fruit in the taste, but that's also very subtle. Do I taste raw cookie dough and Bailey's? This beer may be more complex than I can handle rating. Wonderful!! The finish is dry with only a slight back-of-the-tongue bitter. Actually, the finish reminds me of room temperature coffee, too. Great beer. So much better than other brown ales I've had like Moose Drool and Newcastle (opposite ends of the brown ale spectrum). The body is insanely creamy in the beginning, but as it warms it becomes slightly more watery or thinner feeling, but the increased alcohol presence is great. Excellent beer!
