The head was tan and short lived and left no lacing. The aroma was fantastic, notes of floral hops and complex malt. Tasted lightly of hazelnut, light hops, and sweet malts. As close to a perfect balance as one can get. The palate was a tad thin, but nothing major. The finish was perfect too, a fantastic balance of finishing hops and malts. A fantastic beer. Very aromatic beer with molasses, coffee, pine, nuts, and a lot of hazelnut notes. Flavors of caramel, milk, chocolate, maple, and honey. Very well rounded and robust with a touch of hops. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 25, 2005 This dark brown ale poured with a short tan head, eliciting a malty aroma. There is a slightly carbonated mouthfeel and a chocolate malty flavor with a slightly bitter hoppy finish. A very nice brown ale. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA

Incredibly decadent dark roasted chocolate, dry hazelnut, sweet toffeeish caramel. Even gained a slight port like character with food. May have lacked a little bitterness in the finish but did a great job without it. I have to say I loved this one. TheGrandMaster (1862), Auckland, New Zealand
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 30, 2008 Bottle with yalnikim (in NZ), pours brown with a yellowish head. A very nutty aroma, but slightly cardboard. Man this is nutty! Drinks like liquid nutella - nutty and chocolately. Difficult to know how much I actually like this beer - but much respect to the brewer for putting this much nut flavour into a beer. iowaherkeye (1859), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2007 22oz bomber, no date. Pours a slightly hazy brown with ruby highlights and a slowly fading beige head. Aroma has quite a bit of hazelnuts, some bready malts, a bit of yeast and grassy hops. Flavor is much the same with some roasty malts coming through as well. There was some slight acidity toward the finish. Some sweetness noted. Medium bodied with low carbonation, smooth body. The only other hazelnut beer I’ve had was the Berghoff, and this is better--much better. Was impressed with this.
