It's got that great hazlenut nose, and complimenting that, a pleasing malt aromas. Here's where this beer excels. The flavor. Oh, this is what I think of when I hear brown ale. The hazlenut is just simply delectable. The malts back that up with a great barrage of flavors. Creamy palate and full bodied make this one hell of a beer. Without a doubt, one of, if not the best brown ale out there lithy (1845), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 5, 2004 Light tan head. Frothy but not long lasting. Color is brown, dark, dark brown with minimal carbonation. Not a very strong or complex aroma with a hint of coffee and I guess nuts. Also a dairy (cream) hint in the aroma. Wow. Very smooth flavor and very easy drinking. Slightly chocolate and toasted grains. Finish is dry and slightly bitter. A very good beer that is very easy to drink. rederic (1815), montréal, Quebec, Canada

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 19, 2002 Given my love of smokier, roastier (or caramelly + hoppy = Poppy Jasper) Brown Ales, and relative dislike of nutty Browns, I approached this with some trepidation. No worries...a fine beer here, to be sure. Has a lot to recommend it; a fair palate, although pretty carbonated (too much?), a good hop finish. In the end, however, it is just far too hazelnutty for my tastes. Aroma, flavor finish, all over this thing you will find hazelnut. My wife would even like it in her morning coffee, I’m sure. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 9, 2004 Bottle. Dark amber body with a loose one finger beige head. Coffee, nut, and malt flavors are dominant. Tastes like a mixture of 25% porter and 75% brown ale. Quite enjoyable.
