Pretty smooth and drinkable flavor. Hazel nut extract gets a bit overwhelming. Finish is very nutty. Good, but not great. JFGrind (1354), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2005 Pours deep amber red with a cap of light tan head. Quite dark for a brown ale, but held up to the light it still has a nice sparkle. Aromas of toffee, fresh clean yeast with subtle fruitiness, some spicy notes, and maybe a hint of hazelnut. Or maybe a hint of the power of suggestion. Honestly, given the name, I was definately expecting a blast of hazelnut extract. But it’s not there, and I think I like it better that way. It doesn’t seem like a "flavored" beer. And speaking of flavors. Rich toffee flavor with some good understated hop bitterness. Initially sweet, but with a dry, clean finish that keeps it from feeling sticky in the mouth. A very smooth, well-rounded beer. JohnnyJ (1350), Carlsbad, California, USA

Aroma of nutty malt, hazelnut, chocolate, and a little vanilla. Nice flavor of coffee, roast malt, nuts, and chocolate. A very nice brown ale. Stefano (1342), Esbjerg, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 17, 2007 Deep red to leather brown body with a thin tan head. A little lacing. Aroma is malty, nutty and with noticable hops present and hints of coffee and chocolate. Flavor has hazelnuts, oakleaves, glue and salt. Fairly thin, even a bit watery texture. Fishy, caramelly aftertaste. Good, but not entirely convincing.

Don't get me wrong, I like hazelnuts. Hell, I even like filberts. While some natural flavor or even malt may be utilized, I just don't care - not my kingd of beer. I mean I can taste a good beer under it all, but just can't get past what most others probably love. And to top it off, a phone call came right in the middle of sampling and I got up, knocked the damn glass to the floor. Have never had a glass shatter into so many bits. Beer and glass - gotta love it.
