| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Oct 27, 2006 I just moved into Portland so I’m having my fair mix of Rogue brews. The only other Rogue I have had before moving was their Dead Guy Ale... I am thoroughly impressed with both of them. This beer had a dark amber/brown color, slightly transparent. The guy right next to me was smoking at the bar I couldn’t get a good sniff because my nose was all crazy. Head was a little thin but a bright contrast white compared to the beer. Taste of course had hazelnut but there was another sweetness in there, almost like cramel or toffee. Very sweet! Extremely smooth and nothing but joy as I drank the beer. Aroma: Yes - Hazelnuts, yeast, chocolate. Flavour: Malty - nutty, some slight vanilla too. Interesting. Somewhat dry finish. As it warms up I can taste the hazelnut more and more. Delicious. scrizzz (1274), kirkland, Washington, USA

Roasted malts clash with the extract, almost a pvc type flavor at the end. Vanilla and hazelnut finish overly sweet. heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 7, 2003 Updated: Apr 24, 2005Dark brown body with a diminishing head. Nutty malt aroma, light hops (herbs?), and moderate yeastiness (dough). Sweetness throughout with a moderately bitter finish. Oily to creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. A little unbalanced to the sweet side. Peppery saaz hops are detectable and do a good job of keeping the hazelnut sweetness under control.
Rerate 8/14/03. Better than I originally gave it credit for (4.1). Starting a little warmer (50 degrees F)than I’m sure I had it last time, I noticed just how svelt this brew is. Smooth, nutty, lightly tingling carbonation (maybe a little too much so), a good creamy mouthfeel, delicious chocolate malt, nice spicey Saaz kick without being overly hoppy. The list goes on and on. Using Saaz and Perle hops in this brew was absolutely genious, IMHO.
