| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 23, 2006 Not as good as I had hoped this beer would be. I have waited a long time to drink this, and had really high expectations. I wanted to like this beer--because I’m a big fan of Rogue--but I just couldn’t do it. The pour is brown with a good head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is of weak malt and that’s about it--just not much to speak of really. The taste is the same, just underwhelming me with blandness. Mouthfeel is alright, but I just kept wanting more. "

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 3, 2005 Poured brown with a tan head. Sweet malt aroma with some nut character. Taste is nutty but also very malty like a bock. Very drinkable, and hands down the best brown ale I’ve had. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 15, 2004 Beerbistro Winterfest and Vintage Tasting. Mahogany colour with a thin and diminishing off-white head. Nutty, fruity, cherry, caramel, and molasses aroma. Chocolate, amaretto, nutty, coffee, and lightly fruity flavours. Light bodied and somewhat watery. Overall, less than the sum of its parts, mainly due to lacking mouthfeel. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Pours a medium-dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma is sweet, mostly nuts and coffee. First taste is all hazelnut, but that seems to mellow and be balanced by chocolate and coffee. I really enjoyed this beer. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Feb 21, 2003 Dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is of malt, a molasses/chocolate mix. Slight nut flavor, mainly a toasted malt taste. Finish is not " smooth malty finish" as the bottle claims, it is bitter on the sides of the tongue, which becomes annoying at the ended of the beer. porterhouse (1154), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 4, 2005 (22 oz. bottle) Pours a deep coppery brown, nice biscuit head, some lacing. Notes of caramel and coffee. Mouthfeel mostly smooth, a little fizzy. Flavor, smoothness and whole experience gets better as you drink it. I taste more coffee and chocolate than nuttiness though. Mmm yummy smooth. jcr (1153), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 18, 2009 Bomber. Dark brown body with a light brown head that doesn’t stick around. Nice aroma of hazelnut, caramel, toast and herbs. Notes of flowers. The flavor is heavily sweet and lightly bitter. The sweetness drops somewhat in the finish, but the bitterness kicks up only a notch or two. Medium body with a watery texture that is a bit sticky. Lively carbonation. Distinctive brown ale with a dominant hazelnut taste. A bit over the top on sweetness for a brown ale. Still, an enjoyable, tasty beer.
