Bomber. Dark brown body with a light brown head that doesn’t stick around. Nice aroma of hazelnut, caramel, toast and herbs. Notes of flowers. The flavor is heavily sweet and lightly bitter. The sweetness drops somewhat in the finish, but the bitterness kicks up only a notch or two. Medium body with a watery texture that is a bit sticky. Lively carbonation. Distinctive brown ale with a dominant hazelnut taste. A bit over the top on sweetness for a brown ale. Still, an enjoyable, tasty beer.

This is a very unique beer. MUCH better as it warms. Not much of a head, but decent lacing. Nutty aroma almost jumps out of the glass at you. Wonderfully complex, rich taste of molasses and hazelnut. Hoppy, but not overdone. Tastes THICK. Definitely a beer to remember and try again.

22 oz. bottle from Sam’s Wine (South Loop, chicago, IL). Pours a deep dark tobacco-y brown with nice tan head. Aromas are lighter than expected, some chocolate that provides a touch of a bittersweet element and light nutty sweetness that balances well with the bitterness. Medium bodied, lighter than expected on the palate. Finishes with some nice chocolate and nut notes with hoppy bitterness. Pretty good. Cheers!

Baby pours me a deep brown, but mahogany body… the head is kaki, tall and thick. I take a sniff…. It smells like homemade waffles covered in maple syrup. The flavor is freaking identical!!! Damn, brings a rich Nutty Sweetness, a long sense of hazelnut… hence the name of the beer, butter, oats and sweet but lightly smoky molasses. The body is a bit thinner than I would have liked.. it’s almost cola like, but the aroma and flavor are tremendous! One will find Toffee to Know End in this Brown Ale!

on draft: poured murky brown with a small tan head. your nose definately says hazelnuts when you inhale and malt....rock candy. in the mouth its just about the same, dominant nut malt taste, cereal, with toffee flavors. i had just had stones IPA and from that to this is a huge adjustment. my palate was way out of wack, hopefully i got this one right. compared to that no hops here. sweeet malt!

Hazy mahogany, fleeting light tan head. Definitely has the hazelnut in the aroma, along with some roasted malt and maybe some floral hops. Nice feel, just right for the style, not sticky or overly thick, and just the lightest carbonation. Sweet malty flavor with roasted nuts, a little brown sugar, and jsut enough hop character to prevent it from becoming cloying. Nicely balanced and very drinkable.
