Pours a deep dark brown with tan head. A comforting nutty aroma leads the way into a taste sensation. Extremely flavourful. The nuttiness is balanced out with some superior malts which prevent this ale from finishing bitter. My only dissapointment is that I only bought one bottle while in Michigan. An excellent beer! mjandres (2), Galveston, Texas, USA does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 28, 2006 Pour was very nice dark brown color. The aroma was great a hint of brown sugar and nuts with a wee bit of coffee. Head was around 3/4 inch but with little lace. Has a huge hazelnut flavor and caramel like malt, very enjoyable. Finish was a bit shorter than I had hoped for but still good. Very flavorfull and a must have for those that like brown ales. WeeHeavySD (3000), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA

I’ve had this beer many times and I think it is one of my favorite browns. Pours light brown with a large but thin head. This is a delicious light tasting beer that has a sweet hazelnut feeling. It is drinkable and great. jlesage (13), Austin, Texas, USA

I’m not a fan of hazelnut coffee, so I’m a bit surprised at how much I enjoyed this. The smooth texture, and flavorful outburst of a delicious array of malts, topped off with a not too sweet yet not too bitter aftertaste will have you wishing you bought a case. elelwarren (138), SF Bay area, California, USA

Pours dark brown with lovely, thick head into pint glass. Lacing throughout drink. Smells like malts, plums, applesauce. Taste is rich, malty, and ends with the hazelnut essence. No hops. Creamy as a thick Latte. Ate this with some salty aged Gruyere and after each bite, the flavor of the beer intensified. Awesome & sublime & can’t wait to try with other foods. No alcohol flavor whatsoever. otakuden (518), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Sounds like the story of my life, past, present, and future. Rogue always delivers an excellent brew, and the Hazelnut Brown Nectar is no exception. Available in a 22oz bomber, she quickly fills my glass to her very tip-top, but without overflowing.
Rich, dark brown with hints of amber showing through along the sides of the glass. A thick soft creamy head at least 2 fingers thick quickly forms, and then fades into a lush layer of creamy foam resting on top of the beer. Rich hazelnuts practically overflow from the glass and throughout the nose. Sweet malty caramel notes act as an accent to the intensely sweet roasted hazelnut aroma and palate. For such a succulently aromatic brew, the body and mouthfeel are very balanced. Neither too heavy nor too cloying. An excellent brown ale. The hazelnuts practically dance across my taste buds, sweet and nutty on the first number, then settling into a more mellow malty profile with a hint of hop bitterness in the finish. As she warms, along with the sweet roasted hazelnuts I detect a hint of oats/grain in the nose and the palate, mingling with the hazelnuts to bring an almost "breakfast" taste and aroma to the brew. I would attribute this to the oats aroma I detect. Even so, Hazelnut still goes down smooth and easy, leaving even less of a hop nip at the finish the further along in my glass I go. Fabulous.
Probably one of my favorite American brown ales, Rogue pulls off a stellar traditional and yet revolutionary interpretation of the English Brown Ale style. Easy to quaff, I’ve had Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar both on draft and in the bottle and I can say that both stand proud.
