Pour is dark brown and settles into a nice thick beer. Has a nice mouthfeel and goes down smoothly with a little bit of aftertaste. Flavor is excellent and has a nice hoppy hint. A great beer, better than newcastle. BallyLoser (134), Redmond, Washington, USA

Malty, nutty & almost buttery. Aroma is amazing...I know I have to taste, but the aroma. Ah yes. Flavor. Roasted malts followed by a nutty, buttery goodness, then the roasted malts again. Not unlike the aroma. Slightly dry finish. Smooth, very smooth. A little creamy, nice carbonation & that aroma, my god...the aroma is friggin amazing. Great job by Rogue here...great beer! jkaiser (220), Orlando, Florida, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Aroma is full of nutty love, malts bursting with aroma, hazlenut shines most bright. Appearance is the only detractor, a bit red-amber in color, small head, turns into a thin collar. Flavor is full of roasty malt, some full nuttiness, and of course lots of hazlenut goodness. It’s like drinking liquid trail mix some chocolate and some nuts, and lots of perfect. Velvety smooth. scotch4281 (39), Hollywood, Florida, USA

This is a great combination of the three plus a nice hazelnut flavor. This beer has a smooth texture and is in no way bitter. williamherbert (475), Syracuse, New York, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 30, 2009 Clear, bubbly brownish red appearance. Head fades quickly. More red than brown in the light.
A unique sugary sweet (but not at all cloying) brown aroma that is unlike any other brown I’ve ever had. It’s like cake and bready brown sugar with that dry hazelnut adding richness. Just tremendous; it’s a nutty, bready confection.
The taste is sweet, like real bready brown sugar. Grounded with sweet, bready yeast. Beautifully balanced between the sweet sugar and the nutty hazelnut. Hints of oatmeal and cocoa powder.
The feel is so dry and thick, like a light milkshake. Perfect consistency for this style. It’s a great, sweet (but not saccharine) beer. Bready and confectionary. Wonderful and nutty.
