Strong hazel nut malt followed by a perfect balance of hops that I have come to expect from this great brewery. No bitterness in the aftertaste, smoother than New Castle, nearly perfection as brown ales go. Shadallion (526), Sacramento, California, USA

More akin to Samuel Smith’s brown ale than to other west coast browns. I finally sampled this beer at the California Brewer’s Festival and it gets my nod for Best of Show, even though the judges piced Allagash Double. ravidesai (915), Bombay, India

rogue took the Sam Smith nut brown name literally and brewed up this masterpiece.
sweet malty taste with a distinct nutty element.
dark brown, beige head that left a generous amount of lace.
malty chocolate aroma.
great balance of ther traditional ’ beer’ flavors of malt and hops with the novelty hazelnut element.
A classic experimental brew. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 6, 2003 Good dark brown color, small foamy tan head with a good amount of staying power.Malty aroma, mild bitterness as well as a very light hazelnut aroma.Malty taste at the beginning that later turns to a very nicely done hazelnut flavor, mild cocoa or chocolate in between the top two flavors with a nice bitter taste following up them all.The after taste was mostly chocolate with a hice hoppy presence and posiibly just a hint of hazelnut. The brew has a decent feel to it and also a slight gritty side as well.I'd have to say a very nice brew, and it's to bad this was the last bottle they had but the price was nice .99/bottle out of the clearance basket. tourette (186), San Francisco, California, USA

Hazelnut is prominent, but there are many other flavors to go along with it. Its very well balanced, and overall is a top quality beer. I have to hand it to Rogue for pulling off this one!
